Far from Home was a good movie, but not always for the hero stuffs. The story is solid. It mixes humor, moral choices and actions. The actors are amazing. For once the villain is really believable. The FX is decent, but somewhat lessen by the action scenes. Yes, the action is kind of confusing. Sometimes too fast. It does get better in the last 1/3 about the movie. The ending credits leaves you with a lot of questions. I give it a 78%. That was a fun ride.
JW 3 is a very good action flick. The story doesn't bring much to the characters. If anything, it is kind of a loop that brings you to the start. The acting was pretty good. I really like the H. Berry scenes. There are smalls moments of pure fun in the movie. The action is precise, violent and very intense. The film doesn't take itself too seriously and it shows this time around. I give it a 80%. In terms of action this movie is a blast. In terms of story they could have give us a bit more. But you feel like a lot is unsaid, for the other movies.
This film is a monster show. The story in itself doesn't break anything. The villain motivations are very blurry and it's hard to swallow Emma Russell lines of thoughs. And there isn't much emotion apart coming from the monster. Those for the humans are kind of bland like a series B movie. However everything regarding the monsters, the actions, the new lore are the fun parts. The FX are pretty decent. Bradley Whitford has the better lines in the movies. The 3D effect is absolutely ineffective. I give it 72%. Good film for monsters lovers and a good follow up to the first.
Ithaca is actually a pretty decent scifi. The story is subtle enough and has somewhat of a classic style to it. The special effects are limited but they got a good result overall. The acting is well directed. The oldest actors move this boat. The movie is short and for once, to the profit of intensity and a focused narrative. I give it a 75%. For a small budget film, they crossed a lot of marks from AAA movies.
Dark Phoenix is an average movie by many accounts. The story approach the alien perspective in a very distant manner. It also approach all the relations of Jean Grey the same way. It makes all the emotions a very bland affair because the structure of the story is bad. Most of the dialogues are dull and with very little intensity. The humor is just gone. The actors should be good but their performances are bound to the bad choices of the story. And the incessant music kills this movie. Their is virtually no pauses to the long succession of tunes. It's painfully excruciating. Yet there are good pieces in it, but it's disastrous to the movie. The fight in the ending is quite amazing. And the FX are well done. Even the death of a character can't make you feel anything. I give it a 48%. They were too many mistakes to redeem this one. There was a promising story somewhere but not this one.
