Zero Dark Thirty

I believe that Zero Dark Thirty was an incredibly executed retelling of major events leading to Osama Bin Laden's killing; but, I did not feel much when the end credits started rolling. As well made as the film is, at some point I felt detached. Jessica Chastain gives a committed performance, but portrays a character that is so closed up it makes it hard to connect with her. Another disappointment was how quickly Jason Clarke's performance seemed to just go away after the first act. So, despite my disappointments, Zero Dark Thirty was a great account of America's search for Osama Bin Laden and a woman's determination to see it through.

I felt the passion, and the visuals are quite stunning, but it all jumps around too fast. To that, I'm not speaking of the way the characters were and their lifestyle, but the structure of it all. The people lived fast, but the journey's were long. None of traveling in the film seemed to have the depth and weight they had in the novel. Again, the performances were strong enough and the visuals had a distinctness, but I didn't "feel" the journey's like I did in the novel.
