Argo (2012)

Lawless actors and film deserved Best Picture and Actor. See for yourself. Tom Hardy and key supporting cast (Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, and Jason Clarke) blew Argo's sterotypical characters (politicians, CIA agents, scared average Americans) away.

I liked Argo, but have no desire to see it again. That's how I rate a film's success. I've seen Lawless three times in the recent months; enjoy it every time. Tom Hardy deserved Best Actor, and either of the three supporting cast I mentioned deserved Best Supporting Actor.

Certainly worth seeing once. Outstanding acting from leads and supporting cast. Oscar worthy without doubt for Joaquin Phoenix. Philip Seymour Hoffman equally excellent as usual.

However story overall meanders to some extent, causing viewer confusion as to direction, which is a distraction and took away from the experience This is the Director's responsibility ultimately.

Have to confess I must be out of the mainstream on this one. I found this film simply scary, with a shocking ending.

Seven Psychopaths

This was very refreshingly hilarious, far above average comedies.

I expected nothing new, perhaps the one-liners that give you the occasional mild smirk of being entertained, as you eat the candy and check your cell phone. However time after time I was caught off-guard by the comedic quips of dialogue. Not that cheesy, millionth-time heard stuff, but the burst-out 'Ha ha!' laughs that are realistic and fit well within the film's context. Thus I was kept 'in' the movie with the characters, felt a part of the show, and laughed over and over again.

I've seen thousands of movies to date, and this film honestly shocked me by greatly overcoming the film-making dog food you usually expect (and get). This was a top-of-the-line, premium popcorn, candy, and soda!
