I think the major reason that this movie is getting so many negative reviews is that people are looking at it too closely as a horror movie. Now maybe I'm trying to give Smith the benefit of the doubt here, but if this truly was a horror movie then it does fail, and fail horribly. However to me this was more of an action thriller and in that sense it does sort of succeed.
The thing with this movie is that it is almost too short. There is no time spent developing characters other than Cooper and honestly I want the "bad guys dead" and I really don't care what happens to any of the other characters. Death is treated very nonchalantly and the character deaths to me felt meaningless. It was almost like oh, well I guess he's done now, okay.
Now that isn't to say that this movie was all negative, and compared to say Cop Out, a fantastic movie. This movie I found to be absolutely hilarious, and I love the fact that this movie seems to be just a big screw you to just about everyone. I absolutely love that aspect, it is almost mean. Yet I think that it works, and I was laughing from beginning to end.
The movie itself besides the character development I thought was well done, and John Goodman did an amazing job I thought. If you like Kevin Smith then you probably have been chomping at the bit to see this one, and compared to his last couple of releases I can tentatively say that Smith is back. Which is a good thing because when Smith makes a good movie it is a good movie and one that brings much entertainment.
So if bashing religious extremists, and right wing politics offends you I would probably shy from this movie, however if you are indifferent or enjoy that kind of thing this is the movie for you.
This movie was okay, I was hoping for more. This movie tried to be like the British Dirty Harry, but without a good story or good action scenes. There were some cool moments that's for sure and all in all it was an okay movie. I just feel that the killer by the second half of the movie was not interesting he was also kind of pointless. Most of the story didn't even revolve around him by this time and my interest in the movie started to fade. That is until the end, the end of the movie was very satisfying. Worth taking a watch if you're into Statham flicks.
I honestly figured this movie was going to suck, but I was surprised by it. The acting was pretty good considering. The concept is definitely weird, but watching each character handle it in their own way was very interesting. Most satisfying however is that it has basically one of the biggest build ups for one of the silliest pay offs I have ever seen. The ending was so satisfying. Worth a watch if you're in the mood for something different.
I was expecting an action adventure movie with a bunch of action. Instead though I had to sit through a shitty bromance movie. This movie had nothing to do with anything other than Tatum and Bell just running around occasionally killing something. Considering this movie was basically just "Bro I got your back", "don't worry about it Bro I got you", "Et tu Bro?". This movie just pissed me off and I wouldn't recommend it.
I'm still not entirely sure I completely understand this movie, I certainly enjoy it. Very dark, very strange, and very funny. It is tough for me to accurately describe why this movie is good. So rather than try and probably make myself look like a rambling idiot I'll just say this: if you have not seen this movie go out and rent it and my guess is that you will enjoy it.
