ryan's Review of The Amityville Horror
The Amityville Horror(1979)
I believe this film was received in a very unfair manner. Many critics looked at it for what it wasn't and did not take a second to think about what it was. It was the reportedly true and troubling story of mass paranormal activity within a house where the murder of a whole family took place. The body count was indeed zero, but so was the body count in Poltergeist. This film bears many aspects that I saw in both The Shining and Poltergeist. The acting performances were very convincing and definitely exceptional. This is a genuine horror film that uses the idea of unexplained presence and eerie visuals to chill the audience. I have people very close to me who have experienced paranormal activity first hand and this is the only film I have seen to date to nail the phenomenon just as it was described to me. I am a fan of this film and as long as I live I will never understand why the critics hate the shit out of it. Because it definitely does not deserve it.
