Nomadland (2020)
Melancholy yet soul satisfying. McDormand is a treasure as the wandering Fern who refers to herself as "houseless not homeless." Photography is outstanding and Zhao's directing shines. Many Oscars noms I predict. (3-6-21)

Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019)
The movie simmers with a slow intensity with a back drop of gorgeous scenery. Both women are very expressive yet mysterious. (3-7-20).

EMMA. (2020)
Well acted with gorgeous costumes in sumptuous settings but rather boring in stretches. Bill Nighy can do no wrong in everything he does. (2-29-20)

63 Up (2019)
With Its utter uniqueness into the human and emotional qualities of everyday life , the Up series should be considered the Rosetta Stone of reality film. Long before the Loud family, "Boyhood" and the continuous roll out of the bio-pics, Apted and the gang continue to explore the English class system in "63 Up." Am a little concerned that this may be the last Up we get. Rest in peace Lynn Johnson. (1-26-20)

1917 (2019)
An unbelievable story of courage under fire directed with excellence and with the interesting gimmick of a seamless continuous shot. The leads were very good and 1917 keeps you on the edge of your seat. A sure Oscar winner. (1-22-20)
