A film that struggles to balance it's talented cast against an over simplified story that even a two year old could follow, nay, predict. Combine that with a lack of imagination, spastic editing, and a third act that feels like it's hitting the breaks on the entire film, and you've got one dud of a film.
The characters are based on one dimensional stereotypes but you'll forgive it because the actors do such a great job playing these caricatures and their performances will draw you in and help forgive the occasional missteps.
For being a classic it's a surprisingly tone deaf film from it's race bending casting to it's inability to cover anything meaningful. There is a lot to respect in this film, but when it comes down to it, it's about an asshole being an asshole for almost three hours.
It doesn't leave you with much breathing room, but it will leave you with a feeling you just watched a over two hour funny, action packed, and heartbreaking climax to a decade long movie.
