James' Review of Iron Man 3
Iron Man 3(2013)
Every action scene excites and entertains from the jaw dropping air rescue to the explosive finale, and not forgetting the total obliteration of Starks house! Iron Man 3 packs more action than it's predecessors, and is far better than the poor second film, but not as intense as the first. This third instalment, and the start of Avengers Phase 2, sees Stark suffering from panic attacks and a lack of sleep because of the near death experience from the Chitauri wormhole in New York. Robert Downey Jr. is on fine form as expected and Tony Stark is far more vulnerable this time, it seems all these big budget movies like to make their protagonists weak (Skyfall, Dark Knight Rises), so they can build themselves and fight back. Iron Man takes one hell of a beating, and there's not much reliance on the suit this time around so Iron Man 3 proves you don't need a suit to be a hero. Gwyneth Paltrow is undoubtedly one of the most talented and hottest actresses, and seeing her fight and use the suit is absolutely brilliant. Don Cheadle is in nearly every action scene, he's very funny, yet again the talent is being used in all departments. Rebecca Hall is fantastic, and her characters holds a twist that will take you by surprise, and she has great chemistry with Potts even amongst the action. Guy Pearce is a convincing bad guy, he's merciless and cunning, but doesn't stand as high as Loki who is still the bad guy to beat. Sir Ben Kingsley's performance is something to behold, I'm not giving away any spoilers but I guaranteed you'll be so shocked, and amused. The 3D is great, it's more about depth than pop out effects but this film benefits highly from the effect, especially seen in the action shots of the cast standing amongst backdrops of action. This is knockout entertainment, and one of the best Superhero movies in recent memory.
