Searing drama told in a candid manner is a winner. Superbly acted done in minimalistic style. In fact the camera hardly moves and most of the scenes are done in a single shot. Yet another Israeli film that makes you wonder in awe. What on earth is happening there?... This one was made in 2004 but so many suprb first films are coming out of Israel. I guess I should look for Jaffa now, the second film made by Keren Yedaya.
Interesting film where each scene is a set piece & put together it makes a story. The spontaneity & comic potential of most of scenes is fun to watch. A lot of unexpected things happen during the film.
David Lynch's powerful film has some moments that I will always remember. The entire sequence where Kylie Maclchlan is hiding inside Isabella Rossellini's closet makes it a special film. The story telling is masterly but somewhere I felt it ran out of steam. It makes me feel silly as there are still a couple of David Lynch films I have not seen. I had seen this in '92 first time ... and that was a pre DVD era.
Dardenne Brothers are arguably best filmakers in the world today. Their gritty style and precise storytelling makes them special. One wonders how good Bullhead might be as it was selected from Belgium (and Nominated also) ahead of this gem for Academy awards. Fluid camera work, minimalistic shooting style and those actors in wonderful performance. This is just unmissable. For other fans I must add that there are a few sequences with kid is on the bike... :-)
Finally I saw it. I have been looking for it ever since I saw The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. Sergio Leone has a way of telling stories & his collaborators Ennio Morricone (Music) & Tonino Delli Colli (Cinematography) have always done great work with him. Ennio Morricone's themes for Leone's films have been classics. Love the way this film is edited and off course stars serve it so well. Claudia Cardinale at the centre of action was a master stroke of casting. Charles Bronson with Harmonica, Henry Fonda as such a vicious man... Good Fun. Many scenes have been copied in various films but this classic Western still works even 44 yrs after its release.
