I think that for the people that really seemed to hate this film that they did not go in to it with the right mind set. The fact of the matter is that this is based of true events and that is scary no matter what anyone thinks. Especially when it is in space. Now on the other hand it all depends on if you actually believe in the paranormal and aliens and all that. I can also see how people may not like this film, because of the way it was filmed. You have all the blurred shots and the static and the lights on and off during the parts inside the crater. All of these things are enough to turn a viewer off without even thinking about the actual film and its contents. So now with that stuff out of the way the film itself is not terrible. It has suspense, maybe not in the sense we think of, but lets think about this. Nobody knew what this film was actually about and no one knew what the creatures were going to be our what they were actually doing. Also suspenseful was the fact that the Russians apparently landed on the moon as well in a secret mission and its information like that that will get to you think of how many more secret missions were there and what things NASA knows that they haven't shared with people. This film was not your normal type of film and it wasn't supposed to be. So with that in mind you cant criticize it for a lack of a plot or character development, because that is not what this film needed. When viewing a film like this you have to realize as a viewer that certain things are implied and you cant use implications to criticize a film either positive or negative. This film wasn't meant to be scary in the sense of things popping out and having creatures even though it had a little of that, but it was scary, because this stuff could possibly be true. However one part of this film that I think could have been better is the part where there just randomly exploring and walking around, because that wouldn't happen for real. You don't just go walking in to craters where you cant see anything and you don't have reliable lighting, but the fact that could have been a dead body on the moon is frightening. So all in all I think that this film was by no means a great film, but it was decent and it's a film that keeps your interest throughout as long as you have the correct mindset and not just dismissing everything that this film has to offer, because you don't believe in the paranormal, because it is not a fair judgement to the film.
This film was so much better than I had originally anticipated. This makes up for that Mark Walberg abomination. Yes that film was entertaining and I do enjoy watching it, but it didn't do anything right. This film however did it just right. This was a successful reboot. The great thing about it is that it didn't try to hard. It didn't try to do anything extraordinary to get audiences attention. It didn't have unnecessary action packed scenes in order to try and get the audiences attention either. This film just kept it simple and believable. It made perfect sense and it told a really great story. Having it told from Caesars point of view was a really great representation of how he changes throughout the film and how he becomes the leader. I also loved how they showed the mental stages of the apes improving slowly and not just having the things go from being regular apes to super geniuses. Which brings me to the scene when Caesar first spoke. That scene could not have been more epic if they wanted it too. Its scenes like that they really make an audience sit back and realize that this is what makes a film great. It makes a film fun and interesting and it makes people want to see it over and over again. I was very happy that there wasn't ridiculous amounts of action in this film, because I think that it was a great first film in what could end up being a great new series just as long as these films stay the course. That brings me to the scene after the credits where they show the neighbor who got coughed on, sneezing revealing the blood showing that he has the sickness, and he is a pilot so they show the beginning of the sickness that destroys the majority of the human race causing the war between humans and apes. So whether or not this does become a new series this film did everything right and I'm happy to see that this wasn't another reboot abomination, because I think a lot of people would agree that all these reboots are getting a bit out of control, but if all reboots were like this then I wouldn't care, because i wouldn't have anything to say about it. There are only a couple gripes I have with this film and they are small and that is some of the lame dialogue from the secondary actors and in a couple of scenes they make the apes a little dumb by either having a stupid expression on there face trying to make the scene a little funnier or trying to add to the apes story. Other than that this film is great and everyone needs to see it. Caesar was the perfect character and in the end when he spoke and told Will that he was home was a very epic scene and it made for an epic ending, and I hope that this does become a new series, because I left that theater wanting more I was not ready for it to end and honestly it could have been longer and it still would have been great, but if it does become a series than it was a good place to end it, and I have to say one of my favorite scenes was when they were on the bridge and they had Caesar, the oranguatan, the gorilla, and the other ape, I cant remember their names as of right now, but if you are a true planet of the apes fan than you will know what I'm talking about. Anyway they showed the four of them together on top of the bus riding down the bridge, also if your a true fan you will realize how awesome that scene actually is. Finally the one thing that kept me from giving it this film a 100% is that they killed the gorilla. I was a bit confused and a bit pissed when they did this, because one that was supposed to be a main character in this series and two this film had everything going for it they had a good thing going and then they do something like that which could possibly change the landscape of the film or the series. Luckily it didn't change the landscape of the film, because it was close to the end so they didn't really have time. So I will be waiting with great anticipation to see what becomes of this great film, and if there are indeed more to come I hope they keep with what they got and they don't make too many more huge changes to this version. I am perfectly fine with rebooting a film and putting your own spin on it, but at the same time you don't want to change what the story is actually supposed to be, so hopefully we wont see too many more story changes, because it can be a slippery slope, but we shall see what happens. In the end it comes down to this. This is a spectacular film worth seeing and I strongly suggest that everyone go out and witness a great reboot for a change, because who knows how long it will be for another great reboot to come along.
This film is bad, but it didn't stand a chance as soon as Zack Snyder was brought into the film. The storyline doesn't make any sense. I mean how does dancing lead to going to an alternate reality. The main chick should have been killed twenty minutes into the film. The special effects of the film were pretty decent, but not enough to turn this into a decent film. The dragon was really lame looking. The transitioning between the two times were also lame and shaky. This all leads up to an ending that doesn't make much sense. So don't bother watching this film, because it is not worth the time. There aren't even any decent scenes in the film to make this worth watching.
This film is not as good as Shaun of the Dead, but it's really close. I think that this film is good for a lot more laughs. This film is funnier, but storyline wise goes to Shaun of the Dead. I liked how unpredictable this film was, because you really don't know what is going to happen next. The best part of this film is the outlandish dialogue in this film. I loved the character of the super christian chick how has her beliefs changed and just starts swearing, but doesn't know how. I would have liked some more plot line in the beginning rather than just having an alien pop up and going from there. Other than that there really isn't anything wrong with this film. This film didn't reach its potential, but its still fantastic. One thing that it did do better than Shaun of the Dead was being able to be serious at times to give the audience a break from laughing. Then going straight back into the humor with either a funny scene or just a quick witted one liner. This is for sure a film that your going to want to see so go do it.
This film is absolutely terrible. It doesn't make any sense and you never know what the heck is going on. Their isn't enough dialogue in the film and nothing is ever explained. The camera work is shaky. Things happen for no reason. Most of the scenes are just unnecessary. The jumpiness of the film is both irritating and upsetting. The only half way decent part of the film is the ending, because that's when they finally tell you what is going on, but the whole time difference thing in my opinion was just an excuse not to give a real ending, because they realized their film was terrible. So don't bother wasting your time with this one, because it is not worth it at all.
This was not as good as i thought it was going to be, because for the most part the entire film is just anticlimactic. It does have it's moments. For example when Liam Neeson is explaining to Russle Crowe how to escape prison that was pretty awesome. Also the ending is pretty cool, because thats where all the action is. Other than that this film is just way to jumpy. The timing always seems off, and your always thinking that your missing something whether you actually are or not. I really thought that with the casting they did for this film that this would have been a much better film, but it was dissapointing, and it had so much potential which aggravates me. Overall there really is no reason to watch this film, because the two good scenes arent worth the 2 hours and 15 minutes that you will spend to watch this entire film.
J.J. Abrams has done it again. Everything he seems to touch turns to gold. I have to say going to the premier of this last night was absolutely amazing. Between getting free things and getting to see this amazing film before anyone else was great. Now on to the actual film. If you know J.J. or watch anything he has done and you liked it then this is definitely for you. If you like films with monsters and things blowing up with humorous dialogue then this film is for you. The thing about this film is that it doesn't have any big actors or actresses and yet it is still able to be a successful film. So far this is the best film of the summer and it probably will be the best for the entire summer except for maybe Harry Potter, but who can compete with that? The acting from these kids was just stellar. They proved that they deserved to be their. The dialogue they used was great, because not only was it humorous, but it kept the film moving. I guarantee that even though this is a two hour film by the end you will be wishing their was more. The storyline and the plot does a nice job of giving the audience suspense and thrills. You don't really know whats going on at times, but it does a nice job of giving you enough that you never lose interest not even for a second. Any serious Lost fan knows exactly what I'm talking about. Also there are quite a few Lost references in this film along with references to his other works so keep your eyes open. The only problem I had with this film was one scenes and that was when the kids are running around trying to get to the graveyard, and everyone around them is just shooting and shooting, and the problem is they aren't shooting at anything. So that was just unnecessary to me. You will have to see the film so that you know exactly what scene I am talking about. This film further proves that J.J. loves his monsters and in my opinion has daddy issues, but none the less this film is amazing and everyone needs to go and see it. I plan on watching this film many more times while it is still in theaters.
The first thing that you need to know is that in order to enjoy this film your going to have to completley ignore everything you know about X-men. Storyline wise and all that makes absolutley no sense, but that is what was expected from this film. Also I wasnt happy with the voicing of Beast. I thought it was a little off. Althought getting to actually see the transformation was something that you dont normally get to see, and i thought it was extremley well done. Everything else about this film was great. The characters were well casted and they did a terrific acting job. Got to love Tony from Skins as being Beast. The dialouge was great for the film as well. It not only added humor and forshadowing, but it also made the film even more enjoyable than it already was. Another great acting job was by Kevin Bacon. This may have been one of his best acting jobs. He just played a great villan, and he proved that he needed to be their. Personally my favorite part was the two seconds of Wolverine telling them to go fuck themselves. That alone made up for the abomination that is X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This film is great for everyone except the people who were expecting an exact adaptation of an X-Men film, but unfortunatley when it comes to that this film makes absolutley no sense, but for everyone else this will be a great and enjoyable film so do your selves a favor and get to seeing this film.
This film is better than most people think. It is definatley funny in a very stupid way, but what do you expect from Steve Carrel. It was also funny, because of how weird some of the scenes and the dialouge was that you had no other choice, but to laugh. The casting for this film was also well done, and it made the film enjoyable. The storyline was weak and predictable, but you have to expect that from a film like this. There are a lot of funny parts, there are a lot of stupid parts, but this film will denitaley make you laugh a few times, but dont expect anything other than it is. This is not a good film, but it is an enjoyable one which makes it a neccessary film, because sometimes people just want to watch something to make you laugh. Not all films can be amazing award winners.
This film needed to be great, and it didnt dissapoint. The acting of this film was fantastic. It was humorous at the right times although i could have done with a little less humor. The storyline of this film was great. It kept to the comic book which is always a neccessary thing to do. I do however think that Natalie Portman was unneccessary. As much as i love her, she did not need to be in this film. I think that this film should have just stayed with the action, and kept the focus on what Thor was trying to accomplish. As far as villans go I very much enjoyed the ice giants I was happy to see how they were portrayed and they looked awesome. Seeing Loki's transforamation so early in the film was a great way to really get this film going. I enjoyed watching the growth and the development of Thor throughout the film. I thought it was an interesting way to go about explaining it, but it worked. Also i know everybody loved seeing Hawkeye in that scene. Got to love the forshadowing. All in all this film was fantastic. It doesnt have any big problems that take away from anything. Although I think they should have led up to the Avengers film a lot better, because I didnt really see much of anything in that department, but do yourself a favor and watch this film, because its well worth the time.
I unlike everyone else it seems, enjoyed this film. I think the problem is that everyone expected this to be a comedy and i don't think that that is what Ron Howard was going for. At least i hope not, because otherwise this review is completley irrelevant. I thought that as a serious film this was really good and well done. It had it's funny moments, but the strength of the comedy made this film seem like it wasnt supposed to be a comedy. With that being said I thought that the storyline was obviousley unoriginal yet it was well told so it made it enjoyable. This was a very predictable film, but still watchable, and it wasnt overly predictable so it didnt take away from anything. I thought the acting was pretty good. There wasnt any stupid dialouge which you tend to get in films like this so that was good. I also really loved the casting. I thought that all the roles were neccessary, and everyone played their parts well. I never expected Channing Tatum to be funny. Overall this isnt a bad film, it's nothing extrodinary, but it wasnt supposed to be so i think that this film deserves more credit than it is receiving.
This was the worst pirates film, but i cant imagine why anyone would have expected otherwise. I mean you take out two of the lead characters right off the bat so thats going to make people not want to watch it and you doom your film before you even get started. On top of that you basically rewrite who Barbosa is which in turn rewrites the story. This film completley took away from everything that this franchise is. Everything changed, and it did so for the worse. This has become Pirates of the Caibbean: Jack Sparrow is the Only Reason for this Film. This series should have ended after the first, because I cant see this getting any better after this installment. Their were some cool parts for example the mermaid scene, but on the other hand you have mermaids in the film. This became less of a piratey action film and more of a treasure hunting film. A completley unbelievable treasure hunting film. Obviousley Depp was good I also enjoyed Cruz, but other than that it wasnt great. Gibbs wasnt even the same character and that took a lot of the humor away. I think that this film tried to hard and in doing so it created a disaster for a film.
I think that this installment is still not as good as the first, but better than the second, because i think that this could actually be a stand alone film, because you dont really need all the background info to understand what is going on in this one. There is a whole lot going on in this film and i think that it does a great job of not staying on one subject for too long. Even though this film is almost 3 hours long, it doesnt seem like it when you are watching it. It transitions well and it still keeps its humor. Action sequences and plot lines are still great, but i think its time to let this franchise end, because its going to get to the point of being completley rediculous, more so than it already is. Unfortunatley they left it open for a sequal, but this film is definitley worth a watch and is more enjoyable than the second one.
This is a decent sequal, but definatley not as good as the first. The storyline is decent and simple. The acting is the same. Some of the jokes are the same. You kind of get the feeling that this is the first film all over again, because there isnt a whole lot of differences. Action sequences in these films will always make them watchable and this one has some pretty cool ones with the kraken. The cgi for the kraken was pretty well done. Its nice to see monsters that actually look real. So overall this is an entertaining film that just isnt on par with the first one and isnt a stand alone film like the first one is, but still enjoyable.
All in all this is not a good film what so ever. Other than being absolutley hilarious at times this film has nothing. This is the very definition of stupid funny. It has a talented cast but lacks in acting making the cast irrelevant. This film probably would have been better had it not been a remake, but seeing as how it was it loses credit for not capturing or improving what the original was. The storyline is simple, the setting never changes, the dialouge is predictable. There really wasnt much acting. This is a very basic film and other than being good for quite a few laughs don't expect anything else, because you won't get it and you'll be dissapointed.
Normally the transition is from film to ride, but as we see here it is backwards, but effective just the same. This film is a fantastic film blending an action packed adventure film with comedy and drama. Depp is in a role like we have never seen before. This very dynamic and multi dimensional actor has just added another side to himself, because of him this film never loses its luster no matter what else is going on. The perfect character has been created in Captain Jack Sparrow. Unfortunatley the same cant be said for Orlando Bloom. I thought his character was for the most part boring. He does have his action scenes, but other than that he is just too winey and can take away from some of the scenes, because he is kind of like a little kid in that throughout the film he has to be told everything. They try to make him the action hero by crossing the oceans and saving the damsal in distress, but it just didnt work. Which brings me to Keira Knightly. Now her character was great, and not just because she looks great the entire time, but because her character had purpose and her character gave other characters purpose which gives the film it's strength. The storyline is simple yet effective, because it was told in a way that isnt used very often. We have all seen the films where you have to complete a journey to save the girl or the world, in this case both, but not too many films use the pirate or sailing across the ocean approach so that is refreshing. The special effects were extremley well done in this film. The constant transformations between human and skeleton were great. It's funny at the right times with clever jokes and quick wit which is always nice to see other than just having lame pirated jokes even though they do that at times as well, but that is expected. All in all this is a spectacular film worth everybodys time so if you havnt seen it yet do yourself a favor and give it a watch.
This film was so much better than I had anticipated. It has a great blend of action and humor. It's funny at all the right times to give the audience a break from the action, and it's not too funny as to take away from what the film is trying to accomplish. If you like The Expendables and/or and Oceans 11 then you are guaranteed to like this film. The casting of this film was stellar. Everyone played their roles to perfection. Every role was neccessary to the story. The storyline was realistic and made sense, and even though it was humorous the story could still be taken seriously. The action in this film was unrealistic at times, but wasnt cheesey so it didnt really matter. Theres a great fight scene and the main character actually gets hurt. All around this film is great with no real big problems. I think that everyone should give this film a watch.
This is a very unique film, and their really isnt anything else like it. A horror film that not only gives the audience suspense and keeps them intrigued, but it has an interesting way of portraying itself in that it pokes fun at itself. The characters have a witty dialogue and they all actually have a purpose. The storyline is very original and gives the audience something they have never seen before. It's nice to see a film that can be witty and make fun of itself but also be a complete blood bath. This film definitley gives people something fresh and is a film that people can watch over and over again and still appreciate it every time.
This film is nothing. It has nothing going for it, it makes no sense, and it has no identity. It tries to do way to many things. The plot has no direction at all. There is no storyline and the acting is dreadful. Every build up is a train wreck. This film is both confusing and extremley boring. I don't know whose idea it was to make this film, but they should give it up after this, because I could have made a better film. There is no action, no horror, and the thrills are both cheap and cheesey, and to top it off the small part of the storyline that actually makes some sense is absolutley predictable. This film was a complete waste of time, and I beg everyone to not waste their time on this poor excuse for a movie.
This film is pretty good, but not for the right reasons. There is nothing scarey about this film what so ever. There are a few parts that have suspense and could possibly make you jump, but this film is actually pretty funny. It's just so rediculously bloody, and i'm pretty sure every chick in this film was on steroids. It's easy to see that Wes Craven has pretty much given up on storyline and just wanted to make an entertaining film with lots of killing. There aren't many characters that survive in this film, but as long as he keeps the originals than i have a feeling he is going to keep trying to make movies. The beginning was interesting in that it was original but lame in the sense that it was cheesey. I liked how this one showed development and evolution from the first three that is always essential in a good sequal. Dialouge was bad, but original for these types of films. The acting was simplistic but entertaining. However the ending was pretty good, because you go through the movie thinking you know who the killer is, you got your three possible candidates and it turns out to be none of them. So it's nice to see that Wes Craven can still suprise the audience this late in the game. Overall this film isnt bad, it's better than the second and third films, but it's getting to the point where if he is going to keep making these films than they are just going to get more and more rediculous, so from a critics point of view they will be terrible, but entertaining just like Saw.
