The way I see it, Tarantino has topped himself in at least 3 minor areas: How many slow motion shots he can put into one movie, how many groins he can shoot, and how many times his characters use the n-word. However, all of that is in service to one of the most witty, stylish, and poignant films of the year. It may be more of a laugh fest than a tear jerker, but it evokes the harsh brutality of the south by capturing the heart and spirit of a spaghetti Western. Every actor is brilliant in their vividly over-the-top characters. Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio both are fantastic supporting roles, and Jamie Foxx owns one of the coolest protagonists in recent memory! This film stands with Pulp Fiction and Inglorious Basterds as one of Tarantino's best.

Lincoln (2012)

A magnificent, yet surprisingly intimate, look at one of America's iconic figures. Daniel Day-Lewis vanishes into the role with charm and gravitas, and the rest of the cast are uniformly great. This is the best screenplay Spielberg has worked with in a long time.
