The American President seemed to be technically well done but it was kind of flat. And it really did seem built to give a speech on banning handguns and assault rifles. I didn't even go back to check. That seemed to be the agenda behind the film. I was disappointed with it.
Not much of a romance. Not much of a romantic comedy. Not much of a drama. I queued it up to check it again but lost my patience and gave up. I actually bought it and returned it I was disappointed. Without doing any research I think the best thing to come of this was Alan Sorkin doing the West Wing not long after.
Not good. Maybe even bad.....
Not a thinking persons SciFi.
At least one poorly constructed sequence.
Cinematography and acting was all pretty good, maybe very good.
Writing, editing, maybe even directing, not really very good.
As a fan of SciFi movies and TV (haven't really read much), as well as Science and philosophy, there were a great many missed opportunities here. Sadly. However Amy Adams was very good and Jeremy Renee was perhaps only somewhat behind her.
I suspect that everyone else probably showed up on time, hit their marks and knew their words.
I think I watched this 3 times and only 2 of them with my son. As I recall it was truly outstanding and I loved it. Much, MUCH better than the live action failure with Ryan Reynolds that came later. I would have loved to see this in theaters and would see a live action version of the would do one.
