John's Review of Zero Dark Thirty
Zero Dark Thirty(2013)
Zero Dark Thirty follows a CIA agent named Maya (Jessica Chastain) and her key role in the Hunt to find Osama bin Laden.
This is Kathryn Bigelow's 2nd War Drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire time. I remember watching The Hurt Locker for the first time and at times I had forgotten to take a breath of air. She brings that same intensity to Zero Dark Thirty. The final 30 minutes of this film was so intense I could feel my heart racing as if I was on a treadmill.
Jessica Chastain might be the best kept secret this year. We never see much of her in the previews and have no idea what to expect. Her performance in this film is sure to draw an Oscar nomination and as of right now my pick to win. She's dropped into a mans world in this film and she has to play like a man in order to be trusted.
The film is based on true events and we're reminded of that in the beginning. But we already know what happens and we already know the outcome. So maybe not every single conversation took place and maybe not every single line was said. But Writer Mark Boal, Director Kathryn Bigelow, and brilliant acting from Jessica Chastain wrapped up 2012 in fantastic form. Look for this film high on my Top 10 list.
I give Zero Dark Thirty....4 Stars
Don't even think about leaving your seat for the final 30mins.
