John's Review of Lawless
During the depression in Virgina a gang of moonshine bootleggers are being tracked and hunted by a deputy that wants a take of their profits. Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Jason Clarke play three brothers that have had great success until a new deputy comes to town played by Guy Pearce. I think Guy Pearce's performance alone is worth watching this film. Without a doubt he will receive a Oscar Nomination and as of right now he is one of the best film Villains I've seen all year.
Director John Hillcoat directed a film back in 2005 called The Proposition which is one of my favorite Western films. It's not a house hold western film but it's one of the best and most violent films I've ever seen. It's worth a viewing by anyone who enjoys Westerns.
My only setback in this film was the casting choice of Shia LaBeouf. It's not a matter of disliking him. I just feel like his characters become more of a distraction in every film he is a part of. But I still can't hold anything against this film. I enjoyed the story and I'm egar to give it a second viewing. It's one of the best films of 2012.
I give Lawless... 4 Stars!
