Movie Ratings and Reviews

Human
Human(2015)

A documentary that is absolutely perfect and almost not humanly possible to make. Every story that is presented in the film is profound. Each people who are talking is quotable. With some minutes dedicated to each person, we are still able to feel as if they are talking to us directly. A movie created to make us understand more about what makes us human.

Brave
Brave(2012)

It's Pixar. What else can you say? :)

Silver Linings Playbook

Fresh movie and Jennifer Lawrence at her best.

The Impossible
½

Best disaster movie I have ever seen, capturing precisely the emotions felt by the victims and stunning heartbreaking images of a tsunami.

Les Misérables
½

Emotional movie with captivating performances, especially the ones by Anne Hathaway and Samantha Barks.

Life of Pi
Life of Pi(2012)

One of my favorite films of 2012. Ang Lee proves once again that he is capable of giving the best story telling in a film. Suraj Sharma did great as a first time actor.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Go see it in HFR 3D. Other than that, I don't really see the point. It's better to have just 1 film for the Hobbit. The film becomes long and boring.

Wadjda
Wadjda(2013)
½

'Wadjda', a film that was created by Saudi Arabia's first woman director Haifaa al-Mansour, is about challenging traditions and pushing boundaries. The film was entirely
filmed in Saudi Arabia - where cinema were banned, which makes it special in its own right.

Drive
Drive(2011)

Like the retro-feel, but that's about it. Not a fan of the movie genre.

The Amazing Spider-Man

I must say, for a pre-quel, 'The Amazing Spider-man' did not disappoint me. The graphics was stunning and the action scenes were exciting. Marc Webb seems to know which direction he's going, and in his hand the next Spider-man films could actually be really good. Andrew Garfield is nothing like Tobey Maguire - he's different in a good way. Spider-man feels more innocent, funny and humane than ever before. Garfield's acting is always exceptional - and Spider-man actually re-affirms that. Emma Stone is amazing as Gwen Stacy and the chemistry between Garfield and Stone was undeniable. If you love Spider-man so much and want to know more about his life history (eg. his life as an Orphan, how he becomes Spider-man, the beginning of the journey, etc), then this film is definitely for you.

The Lucky One

An okay film, not a fan of the story at all.

Snow White and the Huntsman

The production of this film is actually great and the story is not bad at all, but better directing will helps. Some of the scenes are purely stunning because of the special effects; however, some parts are a bit cheesy. The film is too long for the simplicity of the story itself. Kirsten Stewart definitely acts better in this movie, but in some scenes, especially the kissing part, is really similar to Twilight. Her role is definitely better as a leading female. Beautiful acting from Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth. Overall, it's a so-so kind of movie.

The Tree of Life

This film should not be on in mainstream theaters, but since it's there, it would be interesting to see whether some people can stand it or not. In fact, when I am watching this, many people left the room. Some part is just a bit lengthy. It is a film that will blow your mind, in the sense that you will try to find out what the film's meaning is, while maybe there's no obvious thread that could be drawn from it. However, the photography and cinematography is one of the best out there. It's about life, how the earth are created and every single thing that lives on it. An impressionistic and abstract kind of film that is philosophical and religious (on their own right). It is aesthetically compelling and Jessica Chastain stands out from the rest and play the mother really well. Terrence Malick has shown that he is a rare director in today's world.

The Iron Lady

Sad to say that it is an unsatisfying film. It is worth watching if you're looking for just great acting rather than great story. It is undeniable that Meryl Streep is an outstanding actress that will potray Margaret Thatcher well and the film is looking into gender fairly, but being 'politically neutral' surely hurt this film into the root. This film is humanising Thatcher, but also showing why people doesn't like her and perceived her government as an unsuccessful one. Plus, going into why she's taking capitalism as a choice and her take on policies at the time. All seems very contradictory. Story-wise it feels dull and I didn't find it very engaging, even if we're only looking for her character without her politics. It is strange to see that, until the very end of the film, she didn't even told her doctor that she's having hallucinations and ended up battling it herself until the end. Maybe this is linked with how feminist and strong she is, but still it didn't make this film's ending meaningful in any way. Phyllida Lloyd, good job in getting Meryl as a cast. But do consider better script writing next time.

Volver
Volver(2006)

Love the film. It is unique and one of the kind. It's that kind of film that will be hard to follow if you are doing something else while watching it, but you can be sure it's an amazing one. The script writing is fabulous - probably the best I have ever encounter. From the beginning until the end you will be able to see connections. Penelope Cruz is truly a gem when she's doing a Spanish film. And... the last but not least, you should be sure that Almodovar is an exceptional director and I look forward to see more of his films.

My Week with Marilyn

'My Week with Marilyn' was STUNNING. The setting, location, cast and all were wonderful. Camera angles were fantastic and I love every minute in watching this film. Except maybe with a little bit better directing and scriptwriting, this film will be perfect. It's not a film that is only dedicated to women - no, not at all. Men could also enjoy it. This film will surely be a turning point for Michelle Williams, who just prove that she could play any kind of roles. Marilyn Monroe was in no doubt vulnerable at the time when shooting 'The Prince and The Showgirl' and Williams delivers it perfectly and making it all believable. This movie is more about Colin Clark though, who wrote a diary about the production of the film and his short but sweet relationship with Marilyn. All the cast was used in a great way to potray their characters - however, Emma Watson only play a small part of the film. Totally recommends this one.

Sing Your Song

Probably one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. I love how passionate Harry Belafonte is about his activism in human rights - and he surely continue to inspire us and other entertainers. Really glad I get to know him because of this film, such a courageous human being. So many great quotes that I could get from this film. The most important thing that I get from watching this is we have to stick up to our ideals, no matter how hard the circumstances are. Watched this film from the 55th BFI London Film Festival.

The Ides of March

A very interesting political drama that centers around how a person changes negatively through politics. At first he's that optimistic and innocent guy with idealism, but at the end he has to change all that. Very related to me since I'm studying International Politics at the moment. Glad someone pointing this out in the shape of a film. George Clooney was absolutely amazing, either in directing this film or playing as Mike Morris in the Ides of March. This is clearly something that he is passionate about, and worthy in getting Oscar in my opinion. Ryan Gosling as his best performance yet.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2
½

The truly epic ending of the Harry Potter series. There's no doubt that the cast delivered such a fantastic performance, delivered by their high commitments to make the finale great. Grand, breathtaking, and as magic as the story itself, every person who have followed the series, either from the beginning or just seen one of the film, must see this one. Congratulations to David Yates, who brings all the people's expectation came to live... The only disappointment is, when the film is probably at its best on the screen, the series is over.

One Day
One Day(2011)

A critic called it as a "Modern Classic" and it is. One Day re-told the love story we usually hear, but present it in a whole new way. I read the book before I watched the movie, and let me say now I can't picture another Emma other than Anne Hathaway. She's so brilliant, and so believable. I even think that she outshone Jim Sturgess. At the beginning I thought it's a little bit too fast-paced, but in the end Lone Scherfig make it great. Beautiful, and one of my favourite from now, and probably until years to come. Thank you, David Nicholls!

Run Lola Run
Run Lola Run(1999)

"Run Lola Run" is probably my favourite German film until this time. It is really unique piece of art in the sense that they repeat some scenes without make it boring. Franka Potente is one of the brilliant actresses from Germany, no doubt, even the soundtrack was fantastic, and this film will be the greatest that comes out from the director, Tom Tykwer. Life is a challenge, and it's up to you if you wanted to change bad things from happening. Love moves mountains. Once again, this film proves it all.

The Smurfs
The Smurfs(2011)
½

Need to be completely honest about this one. If you're not a child, this wouldn't give you anything new. The storyline is plain boring, even though I appreciate the special effects crew who made these cute creatures come to life. I don't think the problem is coming from their cast - it's more from the screenwriting. There's probably no other movie this year that makes you more bored than this.

Glee: The 3D Concert Movie

Haven't watch the show? Well, you probably do not need to watch this. But for millions of "Gleeks" worldwide, Glee: The 3D Concert Movie gave a lot of irresistible charms. I only wish they are not only focused in 3 fans in particular to share the real effects of the show to their fans. This movie is what the show is about: celebrating differences and accepting who you are. Glee feels really personal and if you're not connected to the show, don't watch this!

The Adjustment Bureau
½

Amazing story. Should have been promoted more so they can be more successful. A movie that making me thinking, should I choose free will or fate? Beautiful piece of work by George Nolfi. The two lead actors (Matt Damon and Emily Blunt) brings a believable acting to the table. Combining romance with action, it is a satisfying film overall. So, change your fate. "Your future has been adjusted". Yes, by your own free will.

Attack the Block

It isn't a big deal, but was probably the first British movie I watch in UK's theatre. First time I saw full English actors without American interference. It's an entertaining piece of cinema and most of the time I found it hillarious. Sometimes it also give me a little bit of shock therapy. I thought with a small budget and special effects, it could be effective after all. The film combines comedy, science fiction, and a bit of thriller.

Invictus
Invictus(2009)

It is a political movie and no one could ever deny that. But it is also a sport movie, since Nelson Mandela, played as Morgan Freeman, who is one of the producers of this film, try to unite races through rugby. Morgan and Matt Damon give a solid performances here. Great insight in Mandela's achievements as a president. I didn't like it as much just because I'm not a fan of sports movie. But this is surely a touching movie that will inspire you to appreciate unity and victory better. Clint Eastwood is a great director when it comes to drama.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
½

Ok. I will be fair for this one -- I'm a fan of the series, but this one isn't as powerful as the other ones. A bit confusing in some parts, but the special effects, as always, were amazing. Johnny Depp was flawless as Jack Sparrow. Penelope Cruz, um, wasn't that great. I like Keira Knightley more in this series.

Source Code
Source Code(2011)

A perfect "What If..." movie where computer stuff could help us to help save the world. Excellent, especially when looking at how many terror has been happened lately. Source Code come from a very simple idea of replaying the moment until we can solve the problem. Jake Gyllenhaal performance was exquisite and overall I like the special effects and the story.

The Tooth Fairy

'Feeling good' kind of movie with some heart-breaking scenes that encourage us to not stop dreaming and believing. They are good! Dwayne Johnson is marvelous in this funny movie. A movie that should be watch by anyone who stop believing in dreams.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

I didn't expect this movie to be this well -- The plot was working great, with brilliant cinematography (in the city of New York) and amazing casts. All of them was truly believable. I love to see Carey Mulligan with Shia LaBeouf. They somehow managed to give an outstanding chemistry. Michael Douglas, Josh Brolin and Susan Sarandon also give their best. A movie that giving us the knowledge but also able to entertain us. Thanks to Oliver Stone. Great insight to the lives of Wall Street traders and global economy.

Your Highness

LOL. This one looks like they used quite a lot for the budget and the cast. James Franco and the other cast is quite hillarious while Natalie Portman is the serious one in this whole film. She's more funny in "No strings attached". I probably will like it better if there's no vulgar humor. Sometimes it's not even funny and probably I will have better rating if the people in the cinema is full. The story, for me, works quite well but overall it's dissapointing.

Lost In Translation

Really illustrates the Japanese culture and how western people look at it from the outside. It's a film about how cultures and languages clashes and make life hard for the people from outside the country. The beauty of this film is that the characters feel "alone". Bob and Charlotte have similar problem and become very close when they are away from their wife and husband. A film that is so unique and people who like to travel can relate to it.

Titanic
Titanic(1997)

For the sake of love, Titanic delivers it all. Excellent acting, wonderful script, magnificent visual effects, best director ever (James Cameron). Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were so believable and lights up the whole movie. Action packed with romantic drama. The movie was also looking at the historical aspect. Looking at their release year (1997) this movie is perfect in so many ways, including visual effects. Can't wait for the re-released of this movie in 3D on 2012 (100 year anniversary of the sinking ship)

The Notebook
The Notebook(2004)

I don't know why rotten tomatoes' critics don't like this movie, but it is a love movie for everyone (men or women) and shows what the true meaning of love is. I am pretty sure many boys have seen this one because it is so precious. It is probably the best love story ever told by Nicholas Sparks. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams at their best. Not to be missed. This movie is very moving and we will remember it forever. It is one of my favorites of all time.

American Beauty
½

Sam Mendes. Wow, I think I know how he usually make movies now. This one was very strange, but somehow disturbingly true. The characters were distinguishable in a good way, because they all represent different types of people. This movie touches many aspects of human life and how sometimes we all never satisfied on what we had and end up with nothing instead. Beautiful piece of art, which should be appreciated.

Blue Valentine

Not a big fan. It is just so devastating to watch, even if it can be seen as realistic and stuff. Centred around two actors, this film is pretty engaging. Michelle Williams is surely a new actress worth considering for after watching this movie and Ryan Gosling's performance was great. I found nothing wrong with the actors and how the film was deliver, I just not liking the story. An emotional movie that is disturbing enough about relationships. A definite hard-watch film.

Conviction
Conviction(2010)

Very relatable film for close siblings that comes from a true story about the Waters. Brother and sister are faithful to each other, to some extent the sister want to do something hard (studying law for years to become an attorney) for her brother and sacrifices her life for him. The film shows how cruel the law system in the past was, letting innocent man in the jail for years without justice. Hillary Swank, as always, deliver her compelling performance along with Sam Rockwell, who plays Kenny Waters, the accused murder. A wonderfully powerful movie. Love it.

The Town
The Town(2010)
½

It is a great action-packed film, but not exactly my favourite. It is a crime movie with some twist. All I can say is Ben Affleck did such a good job in creating and playing a role in this film about bank robbery. So do Rebecca Hall. Blake Lively in my least favourite character. But it is good that I know she can do any roles. The story is kind of rare, that's why it becomes enjoyable to many people.

A Walk to Remember

This timeless romance movie contains very simple story that move us from the bottom of our heart. The story comes from a book with the same title from Nicholas Sparks. In some ways, this movie is pretty religious too. Heart-breaking, lovely, and of course great chemistry between Landon and Jamie. Mandy Moore sings beautifully in the movie and creates wonderful soundtrack. A movie by Adam Shankman that shows that faith is a precious thing.

Did You Hear About the Morgans?

Brilliantly hillarious. I can't think of any other film in recent years that actually made me laugh so hard. SJP and Hugh Grant made a great on-and-off couple and I actually admire the script writer, whoever he or she is, since it is absolutely GENIUS! The film is a combination of American and British culture because I think the jokes are really British. It's that "oh it's not funny but I have to laugh" type of jokes. Really, this one made my day, I'm not even exaggerating.

No Strings Attached

Surprisingly very enjoyable! Natalie Portman shows her capabilities to play in a romantic comedy and Ashton, well you know, he masters romantic comedy and always makes the film laughable. He is, as usual, fun and hillarious. Too bad it is a very predictable film, "friends with benefits" fall in love with each other basically, which make my rating pretty low. The characters are developed decently.

The Social Network

A bit slow at first, but later we would find that this movie is actually interesting. Not as epic as I thought it would be though. Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield are fine in their roles. It is a movie that give an insight in how complicated law actually is and lots of conflict in doing business. However, taking risk. The movie also revolves in the relationship of doing business and the complication of it for friendship. It's a fine movie to be experienced.

The King's Speech
½

Wonderful. I can relate to some extent with King George VI. A movie where we can learn from. Other than Colin Firth as King George VI, I congratulate Geoffrey Rush for his splendid role as Lionel Logue, the one who trains the king to better at speaking. We can see that speech can be very challenging to some people. It also can be imagined how glad the people were when they actually find that their king could represent their voices."Congratulations your Majesty, true broadcast."

Everybody's Fine

I actually love this movie. It is a simple one, but touching. A father wants their children to be with him on the holiday, but suddenly everybody is canceling the plan. We can feel the dissapointment of the father, but he's trying very hard to be patient and to be closer with his family. The movie is really realistic and engaging. The casts play very nice, especially Robert De Niro and Drew Barrymore. So, everybody's fine.

Crazy/Beautiful

Kirsten Dunst were so different and so young in this movie. The story is pretty much very ordinary. However, the directing and acting was great. It also leave out the racial differences between the couple. Touching movie about how a girl wanted to be loved and accepted in her environment, especially family wise. Romance movie that is realistic and also touches the family part, where in many romantic movies it haven't seen as an important matter.

Sex and the City 2

A sequel that fails terribly. Don't know why, but it feels much more like a tourist advert more than a movie. If you just want to have fun and not looking forward to actually watch a movie with quality, you can watch this movie. But the sequel was lack the good story since it looks like the good ones already been used for the first one. Sorry, Michael Patrick King. But we are not going to watch Sex and the City 3 if there is one.

Sex and the City

When I saw this flixster page on the first time, I wonder "How come does these critics did not like this movie?" Actually folks, it is a very surprising-unbelievably-good movie! Even if I rarely watch SATC TV series, I believe this one was worth watching, especially for the girls. You can find almost anything in this movie. Sad, laughter, love, fashion, boys, friendship...Fabulous casts that are very familiar to SATC fans -- Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon makes adorable friendship between the four.

The Pursuit of Happyness

The type of movie that becomes really good because it was created from amazing story. The movie gave us the glimpse of the homeless and unemployed people. A movie about how hard some people actually work to lift their way up to become successful. Will Smith was such a good choice to play Chris Gardner. Chemistry between him and his son, Jaden Smith, should not be questionable anymore. The movie will bring hope to many people who watch it. No matter how hard it is, we can actually do it if we dare to try.

King Kong
King Kong(2005)

Epic cinematic experience in the year it was released (2005) by Peter Jackson. Even if it is running for 3 hours, I did not feel it was that long because it was a fun experience to watch it. Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Andrien Brody was stunning, however I did not feel that the ending lived up to the people's expectation. The contrary between the Skull Island and New York really makes this movie interesting. Brilliant visual effects that turns New York into a place that feels 'oldie'.

Schindler's List

A sad, touching and inspiring movie by Steven Spielberg in the year 1993. Potrait of a cruel Holocaust (darkest chapter of human history) that are presented by amazing casts. Oskar Schindler's character was an inspiring one featured in this black and white film. However, this movie take a lot of our time (running for more than 3 hours) and sometimes we waited to long for a dialogue and it keeps us wondering about what is next. Overall it is a different drama that is one of the world's finest achievement in cinema industry.

The White Ribbon (Das weisse Band)

A movie by Haneke that is mysterious, probably give us some clue to actually know who the murderer is and let us think, not just watch. But I don't think it is a movie that most people look forward to. It has that 'dark' side into it and also presented black and white. A slow paced movie that sometimes makes you wonder what are they actually doing and say. Not that "Das Weisse Band" is overall bad, because they have brilliant narration attached to it. Opression in the area triggers evil doings.

W.
W.(2008)

A wonderful biographical piece. Whether you hate or love Bush,he has a lot of impact in the world we live in today. The move give us some interesting insight to the Bush's precidency and how he reach it. Josh Brolin is brilliant to play Bush Jr. The story is delivered to the audience in strange way, but great. It is divided to parts before he become president and when he's the president. I waited for the second election, but I don't think they are filming that. Some important part of Bush precidency might be left out due to the early release. But it is very enganging one.

Frost/Nixon
Frost/Nixon(2008)

Frost/Nixon is a type of movie that glue you to the screen since it is very enganging. The battle of the conversation is very smart. Nixon is a historical figure that is important in the Watergate conflict. The public wants him to apologize for the mistakes he made in his presidential time, but the president never do so. Frost is somewhat the same with Nixon. The two was very confident and never know what their deficiency are. The story about how hard it is to admit our mistakes, Frost/Nixon is worth watching.

"When the president does it, that means it's not illegal" -- Richard Nixon

The Queen
The Queen(2006)

The Queen has that dillemma in go with the tradition or changing into the way of modernity. She has been very loyal to the royal family. However, the public wants something different from her. The story revolves around the period of Diana's death to the funeral. It is a movie about courage. Helen Mirren is very oscar-worthy for her role as the Queen. She is somehow very magical in this movie and make us want to know more. Michael Sheen shines as Tony Blair. He save the queen's credibility.

I, Robot
I, Robot(2004)

I, robot was good, but not great. Will Smith, as always, did a fine performance. The story is also unpredictable. A kind of sci-fi movie that keep us wondering at the end of the film. What if it happens in the world we live in today? An action with extraordinary visual effects that creates an enjoyable film to watch with friends.

Babel
Babel(2006)

Photography is outstanding, probably the best part the director made. However, some scenes are unnecessary long and make you bored. Not easy to watch for some people, really complicated movie. Its central theme is insecurities among the people. The movie taken in various parts of the world, bringing different views on overcoming problems. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett was wonderful. Very emotional and in some way, disturbing. Interesting movie that are not for everyone.

Rendition
Rendition(2007)

It actually is an under rated movie, it is better than what people think! The story is original, I've never seen other like this before. Jake Gyllenhaal does not do that much role in the film, but his acting is great. Reese Witherspoon have a great character and she illustrates a desperate mother searching for her husband really well. Other great actors are Alan Arkin, Peter Sarsgaard and Meryl Streep. A really politically thought-provoking one but in some parts look a bit biased. It's a problematic story that everyone should think about.

Enchanted
Enchanted(2007)

Beautiful and really lovely. I never seen grown ups disney movie that are more enganging than this one. Enchanted combines the reality and fantasy, where there are cartoons and also real human. This movie also bring the 'happily ever after' factor and brings it to the real life. Besides the predictable ending, the movie really keep us entertained with some funny scenes. Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey are really great in bringing the characters alive.

Mulan
Mulan(1998)

Mulan is indeed an inspirational character that going to be remembered by many people who watched this movie. Mushu is my favorite since he's very cute and funny. The songs are catchy. I believe Mulan brings out some ideas for feminism and the life in China. This is a movie worth watching for many girls and women out there. It contains history and morality. Disney is really successful in making this animated movie.

Dirty Dancing

Classic 80's movie (the movie was released before I was born) that turns into play in some parts of the world until now. "Dirty Dancing" give us some sexy dancing and outstanding act. My favorite scene is the final dance of Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze is truly epic. Especially the Oscar Winning song, (I've had) The time of my life. However, I think this movie have a lot of hype just because their great songs and dancing. There's not much in the story.

Juno
Juno(2007)

Wow, it is interesting how many critics like this movie! I think it's kind of overrated because it's simply not different that many movies out there. But the good thing about this movie is probably the morality since Juno does not want to do abortion and give the baby to a woman who is longing for a child. Juno tried so hard to be a "cool" kid. Other than that, it's a typical teen movie that most American would like, reminds me of "Superbad" a bit because of Michael Cera.

Cold Mountain

A very long movie about civil war that will make you bored. However, it is a good movie that deserves to be watched. But I don't quite like it and doubt that I will watch it again in the future. The cinematography is beautiful. They have a good job in making the accent of the area. Jude Law as always, bringing the best he can to the movie. Nicole Kidman, to me, is boring here because it looks like she got a character who is "weak". Natalie Portman, even if she's not in the most scenes, did a great job as Sara.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas)

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is the type of movie that draws you in from the very first scene. While some movies about Holocaust shows us perspectives from the Jews, we could see it from the Germans from this movie. Asa Butterfield plays Bruno and brings out the innocent sense really well. This movie reminds me of "Life is beautiful". Probably one of the best movie that shows us how bad racism or holocaust could be and the innocence of children's friendship. It is also a movie that proves that children have a vey high curiousity and we should not prevent them to do what they wanted to do.

Atonement
Atonement(2007)

Beautiful movie about how misunderstanding can be very dangerous for people. Many actors play Briony Tallis, and everyone seems to represent her well. Keira Knightley and James McAvoy shines. Many scenes are created to make an imlplicit signs. I liked how some scenes bring some questions and mysterious and then the director takes us to flashback and we understand better from different perspectives. Joe Wright as a director always bring us "unusual" movie yet beautiful. The ending makes me very sad and it's definitely not a typical hollywood movie.

Sweet Home Alabama
½

Can't even bother watching it till the end. I guess the good part is only when Dakota Fanning is in. Other than that, it's boring. I don't want to waste my time.

Love and Other Drugs

Brilliant acting, too bad the story is not that great. The true strength of this movie is the acting that Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal created. Anne Hathaway probably have a very hard character to play, which is the "sick" Maggie. She is unbelievably good since she makes the character alive and better, she can bring tears to the screen. Many cliches make this movie less strong and you can easily know the ending. Watch this because the two actors really do the best they can to save this movie from being a bad one. Without the actors, the movie will be just a trash. It's not a perfect romantic comedy because of those reasons I mentioned above, but probably the best this year.

The Terminal
The Terminal(2004)

Very sweet, moving and inspiring. I have to admit that I love airport. It's a place that I enjoy the most and that's why I can relate to this movie a lot. Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones create that amazing chemistry. It is probably one of the movies that Steven Spielberg created without any big visual effects. When you are reading the plot of this kind of movie, you probably thought that it will be boring, but on the contrary, you will find this movie entertaining.

Blood Diamond

Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly, and Djimon Hounsou plays the movie beautifully, but what makes the movie really good is their story that is (I believe) inspired by the true event. The situation in Sierra Leone might be better today, but we could probably still found the conflict like that illustrated in this movie in Africa as a whole. War over money is the hardest problem that is happening there. This action movie is really good in any way: looking at the special effects and the moral side. A must watch, especially those who are interested in international relations.

Little Miss Sunshine

Distinguishable movie (in a good way) where every actor seems to have unique character of their own. Looking at the tagline "Everybody pretend to be normal", the movie tend to be true in anyway. Abigail Breslin is so cute and she shines in this movie. The conflict around the movie is outstanding and irresistible. I found it very surprising one and it deserved the attention.

500 Days of Summer
½

This is a movie that brings fresh air to the romantic comedy, that are usually boring. Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have an amazing chemistry and performs brilliantly. The movie is closer to reality and pictures complicated kind of love perfectly. The songs matches the scenes. I love how the scenes are made one on a day and it was randomly delivered to the audience. The number of days are seen with the illustration of moods on that day -- whether happy or sad.

I enjoy it from the beginning till the end.

Home Alone
Home Alone(1990)
½

Can not even believe this movie was made in the year I was born, which is 1990. Macaulay Culkin is totally adorable and this movie could be the greatest christmas movie of all time. Home Alone 2 and 3 could not even compare with this one. It's contains both comedy and action. A funny movie to be watched with the whole family in the holiday.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
½

The best out of Twilight series so far, David Slade as the director balances the romance and the action and make Twilight series more watchable to the boys. The love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob makes it more interesting. The special effects improved a lot.

Closer
Closer(2004)
½

The most realistic romance movie ever created with 4 amazing casts : Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman, and Clive Owen. The relationship between 4 people become more and more complicated in the movie. It's not a love triangle anymore, but quadrangle. Another not-so-ordinary kind of hollywood movie that offers smart performances. Mike Nichols gave us the darkest love story ever told.

An Education
An Education(2009)

At first I didn't expect this movie to be great like this, but as it turned out, this movie is genius. Carey Mulligan brilliant acting shows that she will be an actress that is worthy enough to get an Oscar someday. The movie captures Britain stunningly. The script and story is very engaging. I think it is the best movie of 2009. For sure, it is not an ordinary hollywood movie and very educating indeed!

Pride and Prejudice

Keira Knightley deliver her best performance here with outstanding chemistry with Matthew MacFadyen. 18th century language did not seem to bother her at all. It is a good remake of the film, a piece of art from the popular novel by Jane Austen. Enchanting movie with spectacular cinematography. "Pride and Prejudice" is a classic movie of love that have been remade a lot of time and all I can say is this 2005 version will not dissapoint at all.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

One of the best childhood classics, every children have to watch it at least once in their lifetime. Heart breaking and touch us from the bottom of our heart. E.T is one of the biggest achievement of Steven Spielberg. Watch it with your family and feel the experience of watching this outstanding sci-fi movie.

Cruel Intentions

My friend recommend this movie to me at first and then I decided to check it out. It is not a new movie, but yet there is something very cool about it. Ryan Phillippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar played the antagonists very well and Reese Witherspoon as Annette is successful in bringing the innocent-sense of the character. The soundtrack is the best and the ending is satisfying.

The Day After Tomorrow

My favorite sci-fi movie related to global warming. Action packed filled with romance too. Jake Gyllenhaal and Emmy Rossum did it well because they both have good chemistry. This movie really illustrates global warming well without make it boring to the audience.

The Tourist
The Tourist(2010)

A bit dissapointing when we see that Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp was in it. I did not really know what went wrong, but I thought it is because of the lack-of-depth story, lack of chemistry and everything became so predictable. We got enough action movies from Jolie that are really good, however, sorry to say, not this one.

He's Just Not That Into You
½

An entertaining movie consists of various superstars. It turned out to be better than I expected it to be. A lot of sayings should be useful for people to know if he's into you or not and the ending is just turns out to be wonderful. I love this kind of movie where the actors are interconnected with each other and it probably is the best movie of its kind.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

The movie captures Barcelona pretty well. Everything is so artistic. I love the narrator in this movie and the use of spanish language here and there. The story revolves between the two actresses, who have different perspectives of love. Penelope Cruz as Maria Elena, former love interest of Juan Antonio came along and makes everything more complicated. One of Woody Allen's best movie, "Vicky Christina Barcelona" had it all. Perfect summer movie that is funny and romantic.

Ratatouille
Ratatouille(2007)

I watched this movie again yesterday. Ratatouille is about a rat named Remy who has a very great passion. He became stranded in Paris, France one day and found the restaurant where his favorite chef used to be the head chef until he died. It's a very cute movie! Outstanding and adorable :)

Tangled
Tangled(2010)

Great disney movie with morality is coming back! Unbelievable story, they're so good especially for children. It is made to tell the people who are watching that dreaming is an important thing. With Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore as the casts, everything become so tremendously exciting and entertaining. The songs reminded me of old disney movie like Beauty and the Beast. Totally worth watching!

Laskar pelangi (The Rainbow Troops)

One of the best indonesian movie in store today from a brilliant Indonesian director Riri Riza. Hope that Indonesia could make more of movies like this in the future. It can be described as a fun one and it teaches us how to not be afraid to dream a little more.

Dear John
Dear John(2010)

Another great storyline that comes from Nicholas Sparks' book, unfortunately it is not that deep but both actors are showing great chemistry. Some scenes are telling us that they could do much better than this. The ending is ruined because they do not follow the book; which is the important part of the story.

Never Let Me Go
½

This movie comes from an extraordinary novel from the same title. "Never Let Me Go" is a beautiful and (at the same time) depressing love story. It revolves around loss and fear. The 3 central actors are the best young ones that are in the movie industry today. It is a science fiction movie without expensive visual effects. Goosebumps all the way when I watched the movie. Totally deserving more recognition.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Do not live to the people's expectation and take so much out of the book that are supposed to be important. The actors are not as powerful as the actors from Harry Potter series. However, the visual effects is extraordinary. Just wish it will be better than it actually is.

The Ring
The Ring(2002)

Great horror film

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Always been a fan of Pirates of Caribbean, this one is really great with outstanding visual effects.

A Cinderella Story

Nice, light drama for teenagers (especially girls).

Mean Girls
Mean Girls(2004)

It's fun, but not very educating at all. Sorry Lindsay.

Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman(1990)

All time classic, great chemistry between the two actors.

50 First Dates

Funny and all, recommended if you want non heavy movie who can make you laugh, over and over again.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I must say that I'm a fan of Harry Potter, love J.K. Rowling fantasy, and this movie is quite good.

Shrek 2
Shrek 2(2004)

First time I fell in love with Shrek series of movies. Shrek is one of my all time cartoon favorite.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith

I might say, Mr. and Mrs. Smith is full of cool action, delivers from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Very recommended.

Spider-Man
Spider-Man(2002)

My favorite superhero movie of them all. Thanks for Tobey for making Spiderman interesting not only for boys, but also girls (since they have drama in it too)

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

Good in their own way, but I'm not much of a fan of Narnia. But you're great, C.S. Lewis!

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

It might be a great movie to some people, especially men, but not for me. Too much war.

War of the Worlds

As a sci-fi movie lovers, Tom Cruise did not dissapoint in thie movie. War of the Worlds is a must.
