Lars Pellinat's Movie Ratings - Rotten Tomatoes

Movie Ratings and Reviews

Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow

"Ground Hog Day With Aliens" should have been the title.
It's total fucking crap. No redeeming features.
Not even good images or decent action.
Wish I could give minus 5 stars!

Live Die Repeat: Edge Of Tomorrow: Weapons Of The Future

"Ground Hog Day With Aliens" should have been the title.
It's total fucking crap. No redeeming features.
Not even good images or decent action.
Wish I could give minus 5 stars!

Zero Dark Thirty

I trust Zero Dark Thirty must be a hit with Al Qaeda & ISIS.

I guess they miss the part where Osama Bin Laden meets the 72 virgins.

Otherwise a somewhat boring and very predictable film. The high scores here on Rotten Tomatoes are beyond my comprehension

Noah
Noah(2014)

Noah is the worst film I have seen all year!
Beyond redemption! Ready for the ultimate smiting!
Only redeeming feature: That I'm descended from Emma Watson. I like that!

Zulu
Zulu(2013)

For a film that had a budget of US$16 million & box office returns of only US$2.6 million, it is still a solid thriller.

Since I know Cape Town enjoyed the scenery. Final is certainly filmed in the Namib of Namibia.

Whitaker and Bloom give a decent enough performance - 3 stars.

Battleship
Battleship(2012)

Crash, Boom, Bang with aliens AND without any of the fun of Independence Day. A very average action film.

The Conjuring
½

A solid horror film, with all the classic shock-elements.
Well made and well executed.
One of the better films I've seen this year.

6 Bullets
6 Bullets(2012)

A total fucking crap fest - The action makes a Seagal film look logical and realistic.

This is the type of total crap movie they place as an extra in your TV Guide - Best just recycled immediately!

Ender's Game
Ender's Game(2013)

A fascist Sci-Fi world with child soldiers trained as cannon fodder. What could possibly be more beautiful? Watch any old Enterprise film and you have made a better investment of your time.

The Canyons
The Canyons(2013)

A movie produced for US$ 250.000, but certainly looks much more big budget: Great camera work, a haunting song at the end ("Coming Down") and I do like Lindsay Lohan. The story is nothing to remember. For the good stuff: 3 stars.

Dom Hemingway

Jude Law is no Dom Hemingway, otherwise the movie is entertaining.

Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters(2016)

I heard the new Ghostbusters movie is a total fucking crap-fest!

American Hustle
½

I really wanted to see this movie, but a huge disappointment: Long winded with too many relationship drama. Christian Bale is great, Bradley Cooper is not.
The average action movie is a better investment of your time.
Much hyped in the media, but the attention is not warranted!

Starship Troopers: Invasion

Dig out your 80tis video games and play them and you have ten times more fun than with this straight to video video game. Should receive minus 5 stars!

The Russian Woodpecker

People who think that the The Russian Woodpecker presents facts, also believe that North Korea killed Prince to detract from failed rocket launches! The film requires not only a leap of faith, but complete suspension of logic as well. What remains is a vaguely entertaining film, with a look at the Woodpecker and a interesting look at the Kiew-revolution. The high critic-rating is beyond me and could be the source of another conspiracy.

Man on Fire
Man on Fire(2004)

A solid action film with excellent acting, Washington at his best, good story well told. What did the so called "top critics" want or expect ? Within the genre the film rates top (as indicated by the very high "audience score").

The Bourne Legacy

The Bourne Legacy ends in a way to be bourne again. The weakest link of an otherwise decent action movie.

2 Guns
2 Guns(2013)
½

I love Washington and really like Wahlberg, but this convoluted story is more or less a waste of time. Most Steven Seagal movies offer more - Yes, I'm serious!

Lone Survivor

A hard hitting movie that any wanna-be Navy Seal should watch. Weaknesses: a) The end already shown at the start (a bit of a spoiler) and b) the area where the fighting takes place reminds me more of the Rockies, than Afghanistan.

The Monuments Men
½

A movie with almost all the right ingredients that have trouble coming together. At the end a boring failure!

The Lone Ranger

Has weaknesses and length, but overall an enjoyable ride. A good Sunday night popcorn movie. Not less, not more.

Shade
Shade(2003)

Shade is about as entertaining as a game of Bingo in an old age home.

Looper
Looper(2012)

Looper: Not quite the time travel story science fiction fans were hoping for & Bruce Willis doesn't die hard. What a fucking waste!

Now You See Me
½

"Now You Can See Me" is just "Ocean's Eleven" with a bit of magic and wasting the talents of many good actors. A waste!

Bad Karma
Bad Karma(2011)

Bad Karma Is Bad Roadkill. Or Ray Liotta was no longer young and needed the money.

Man of Steel
Man of Steel(2013)
½

If "Man of Steel" proves just one thing: You can't make a good movie by mainly relying on special effects - The clash of the Titans fast becomes a bore fest..
While Batman movies told a decent story, with interesting characters, this is just "Superman-roadkill". Easily forgotten and a waste of time.

Snitch
Snitch(2013)

How did people manage to rate this movie? It would mean staying awake throughout the show! Is this even possible? The Rock once stood for action. Here just for boredom.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

A very long and slow start (similar to Part 1). What you expect is another battle of gladiators, but no, the tributes fight killer-clouds, killer-monkeys and killer-birds. First part was good Popcorn-cinema. This was just a long and winding bore of a movie. How it received 89% on here is beyond me, but I guess a lot of teens love it.

Argo
Argo(2012)

I'm not a big Ben Affleck fan, but in this film he did everything right: Close to the historic facts, fantastic attention to detail, great script, good acting and introducing a gripping story without s single shot. "Argo...fuck yourself"! Simply a very well made movie!

Showgirls
Showgirls(1995)
½

A Titploitation film. And there are hot girls getting naked. And did I mention the tits? It's a campy exploitation movie and a very enjoyable guilty pleasure.
Loved it in 1995, still like it today!

The Dark Knight Rises

The darkest in the trilogy. It can't compete with the Dark Knight and the Joker, which was one of the best film in years, but dark, powerful and gripping to the end.

Black Dawn
Black Dawn(2005)
½

Short summary of the last 20 Steven Seagal movies:
1. He's ex-CIA/Navy-Seal (flash-backs at start of movie)
2. GF killed by bad guys (lots of flash-backs)
3. The government needs his extra 100 pounds to knock out the bad guys
4. Logic of the story reinforced by lots of close combat, despite ample heavy weapons floating around.
5. Look out for a few katanas, meditation & Buddhist stuff.
6. Bad guy always killed in the last 5 minutes in hand-to-hand combat.

The Tall Man
The Tall Man(2012)

The Tall Man is a tall tale full of nonsense - An utter waste of time.
Watch Jessica Biel digging her grave as an actress.

Sinister
Sinister(2012)
½

A well made film, part thriller and part horror-movie.
It introduces the daemon Bughuul, who loves children....
Buharharhar!

Oblivion
Oblivion(2013)
½

I guess Scientologists will love it, if you only into visual impact it rates high, but the story is too thin and too nonsensical to please. My weakest Tom Cruise film in a very long time!

Graceland
Graceland(2013)

One plot twist too many but overall a solid film.

Lincoln
Lincoln(2012)
½

90% and 80% for THIS film? The most boring Spielberg movie ever made. Ever!

Shame
Shame(2011)
½

It's a shame that Shame doesn't do anything for me.

Heat
Heat(1995)

One of the best gangster movies ever made. With a great Al Pacino and De Niro. Michael Mann's best film so far.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

The bad guy is called Zartan - With so much hidden symbolism it must be a very good film! Highlight London explodes. Lowlight: Everything else.

Mission to Mars

"Mission to Mars" must be the most boring science fiction film on Earth.

Battle for Haditha
½

Good war film. Feels like a documentary, which makes it more real. Marines will love it!

El Gringo
El Gringo(2012)

El Gringo is El Crapo - Total fucking waste of time. I switched off to watch paint dry. So much better!

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
½

If I was a vampire, I would hand in my fangs and go home.

The Firm
The Firm(1993)
½

In this film Tom Cruise joints an evil organisation, that hooks him with false promises!

No, not Scientology, but The Firm. Good film, with an excellent cast and a very good script.

The Losers
The Losers(2010)
½

The Losers Lost Me. Bad script, bad acting, sub-standard action. Makes the latest Steven Seagal look good.

Men in Black III

MIB 1: 8 out of 10
MIB 2: 10 out of 10
MIB 3: 6 out of 10 (I found the time travel trip a bit boring, nice aliens, clever ending).

Dawn of the Dead
½

Romero started something that will haunt viewers for generations to come!
So let's Zombie and this film is a good way to do so.

The Town
The Town(2010)
½

Overhyped film, full of logical errors, with a highly overrated Ben Affleck.
Rewatch "Heat" for the tenth time, means time much better invested.

Prometheus
Prometheus(2012)
½

Visuals 8/10, story 5/10, acting 0/10, overall waste of time. And Blade Runner, 9/10, one of my Top Movies!

13
13(2011)
½

Very brutish, but not short enough! Not 8%, but falls short of 50%.

Snow White and the Huntsman
½

OK, but nothing special. Kristen Stewart bores me.

Hostel
Hostel(2006)

If you watch Hostel backwards, it's about a team of Frankenstein doctors who put together people using power tools, bring them to life and send them to America. On a more serious note: A intelligent slasher movie, if there is such a thing.

The Ides of March
½

This movie tries to be much more than it is. Another failed Clooney movie. How this tedious crap can reach 85% on here is beyond me.

The Battle of Neretva

OMG, sooo looong & so boring. Lots of screaming, lots of explosions in the background, very few decent battle scenes and NOTHING worth watching it for. The most expensive Yugoslav movie ever made. Well, maybe making movies is not their forte. I'm being nice, very nice: One star.

The Devil's Advocate

Pacino's John Milton is a truly Faustian character and truly lots of fun - Could easily be a stage play.

Carlos
Carlos(2010)

Fairly close to actual events (even if it claims to be fictional, except for the persona of Carlos), has a documentary feel to it and overall well made, but does not beat "Baader Meinhof Complex" or "Munich".

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

Is it possible that Chuck Barris just claimed to be a CIA killer in order to impress the ladies? I think so. As for the film, I was well entertained, but the ratings here on RT seem a bit high.

Sin Nombre
Sin Nombre(2009)
½

Very hard hitting, but excellent film. Part road movie, part realistic depiction of the "Mara" MS gang culture. Very good acting with a documentary feel to it. A trip into darkness, but allowing some light at the end...

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

Excellent popcorn entertainment: After the 2006 MI with Philip Seymour Hoffman, the second best in the series. First half is excellent, second half a bit long. The script is not very believable, but who cares - Switch of your brain, sit back and enjoy the ride!

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1

Did not waste my time to watch all of this "Blue Lagoon In The Valley Of Toothless (& Bloodless) Vampires" - Unless you are a hardcore fan, just a waste of life.

Seeking Justice

I found "Seeking Justice" a solid and entertaining action thriller. Not one of Nicolas Cage's best films, but by far not the worst. Was well entertained. Would I view it a second time? Maybe not.

True Grit
True Grit(2010)

One of my "really-wanted-to-see-movies": Like the original (with John Wayne), like Jeff Bridges and the work of the Coen brothers, BUT only 3 stars since high expectations where not met. Slow start, takes time to get into gear, Matt Damon does not fit. The "Good": Jeff Bridges & Hailee Steinfeld. Overall expected more from the Coen brothers and overall result - Not much better then the original and if you consider that the original is over 40 years old (1969) they made a very solid film back then.

True Grit
True Grit(1969)

One of the best Westerns ever produced. Great Wayne, great Darby, great story well told.

We Own the Night
½

Here they waste the talent of many a fine actor and your time.

The Hunger Games

Why "Hunger Games"? Because it's so long you almost starve. Jennifer Lawrence looks a bit dull. Otherwise just "Running Man" for kids. In summary: Just crap.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Takes 30 minutes to get going (for an action movie a bloody "no no") and the experience thereafter is average at the most. Very forgettable!

Four Lions
Four Lions(2010)
½

Watching "Four Lions" a satire about a bunch of British would-be jihadists. From the beginning a scream and the best way to approach some of our issues: Kill by laughter ! And if you wonder what happened to "The Crow" watch and find out.

Shoot 'Em Up
Shoot 'Em Up(2007)

Good fun - James Bond Comic Style! Popcorn, beer & "Shoot 'Em Up".

Green Zone
Green Zone(2010)
½

Message: What the Americans should have learned from invading other countries: Kill the lions & you are left with barking hyenas, who help you to build nothing.

Dark Blue
Dark Blue(2003)

One of Kurt Russell's best movies. A solid cop thriller, with solid action.

Paycheck
Paycheck(2003)

Just crap, like most movies with Ben Affleck. Just complete and utter crap.

The Godfather

The mother of all mafia movies.

Swordfish
Swordfish(2001)

Swordfish calls itself a thriller. Problem is, I'm not thrilled. No sparks nothing.

Letters to Juliet
½

"Letters to Juliet" is a US romantic comedy illustrating the American view of "La Dolce Vita." If "Il Postino" is a Ferrari, this is a Ford.

Takers
Takers(2010)
½

"Takers" is like "Heat" without the speed (and the top actors).

Into The Abyss
½

Very sad, very moving, very powerful. Here review by Roger Ebert http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/into-t

The Tourist
The Tourist(2010)

"The Tourist" is best considered an expensive travel ad for Venice, since there is no chemistry going on & it certainly does not thrill. Angelina should sizzle, this crap just sizzles.

Burlesque
Burlesque(2010)
½

Cher acts as if she can't, Christina Aguilera can sing, but not act. Overall "Showgirls" for teens.

Vantage Point
½

A couple of good actors wasted on a bad script. In the first hour there are so many repetitions that I no longer cared for the rest. Thereafter some solid action, but still no reason to watch this. Best Vantage Point: Another Movie.

21
21(2008)
½

"21" is based on the true story of "Busting Vegas" by Mezrich(MIT students card-counting in Vegas) and just like the book a disappointing non-thriller. Here Spacey does not deliver.

Game of Death
½

Love the title: Yes, it is a zombie-like-game after Bruce Lee's death, who still makes the last 20 minutes. The very poor relative of "Enter the Dragon".

The Devil's Rejects

A psychedelic horror road trip - One of Rob Zombie's best.

Taken 2
Taken 2(2012)

Taken 2 teaches you that you should not go on a family outing with Liam Neeson. The first one was above average, this one is not. If he is not careful Liam Neeson may reach the level of Steven Seagal in his more recent outings.

Black Swan
Black Swan(2010)
½

OK Natalie Portman getting close to Mila Kunis looks good, the rest less so.

Tracker
Tracker(2011)
½

Overall a solid movie. Not a big Ray Winstone fan, but here he does well.

The Ghost Writer
½

Too long, too much dialogue, not very thrilling and a poor ending.

State of Play

I came, I saw and I did not switch off, hoping it would get better. It did not. I'm being very generous with my stars tonight.

A Bittersweet Life (Dalkomhan insaeng)
½

A South Korean Gangster-film that can compete with most US films in the same genre. Solid acting, solid action, solid film.

The Long Kiss Goodnight

Good clean fun and a very sexy Geena Davis. Beats Angelina Jolie in "Salt" anytime.
Great quote: "I'm always frank and earnest with women. In New York, I'm Frank, and in Chicago, I'm Ernest."

Unstoppable
Unstoppable(2010)

I would not jump off a bridge if I had made this movie, but why it is getting such high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes is beyond me.
It is very fast moving. So what, this does not add to the story or excitement.
Overall the film is less than average. Only a shadow compared to Man on Fire.

The Last Legion

Hard to believe that Dino De Laurentiis produced this crap. Must have been all about the Dollars (something this piece of Sandals-roadkill never made: Budget US$ 65m, box office: US$ 25 m). Only highlight: Aishwarya Rai. She is stunning.

Centurion
Centurion(2010)

Centurion is like a B-movie version of 'Gladiator' directed by Rob Zombie: "Splish, Spash, Splatter". No wonder the movie that cost US$ 12 m to make only grossed US$ 6 m at the box-office.

Antichrist
Antichrist(2009)
½

Good actors, good acting, but a very dark film with no light at the end of the tunnel. So Lars von Trier was very depressed when he made this film ? No kidding.

Black Dog
Black Dog(1998)

Road kill on wheels. Case closed

The Last Sect

OMFG the most bloodless vampires in the history of cinema... The average Financial Times contains more blood, much more....

Margin Call
Margin Call(2011)

Good acting, some good moments, but less good script - not all (too long) dialogues add to the film. Overall, could have been better.

The A-Team
The A-Team(2010)
½

#TheATeam Entertaining yes, but absolutely no time gets wasted on story or character development, but trying to pack too much action into one movie only reduces the impact.

Inception
Inception(2010)

Inception would love to be what Matrix is.

Inception has excellent visual effects, good actors, but a "dreamed up plot".

This "dream" is not for me.

Valkyrie
Valkyrie(2008)

A solid production with good actors, but if you have seen "Stauffenberg (Operation Valkyrie) " with Sebastian Koch, which was produced in Germany in 2004, this is only a "rerun"

Ironic that Tom Cruise, who is a prominent member of a somewhat suspect cult, is playing the hero trying to kill the oppressor.

Killers
Killers(2010)

For a romantic comedy it lacks chemistry, the action bores me stiff (and it's not a Zombie movie) and the acting is at sitcom-standards. Watch software download on your PC will be a lot more exciting. Just simply a fail - not even for the coldest, rainiest and most boring day of the year.

Lord of War
Lord of War(2005)

Lord Of War with Nicolas Cage: Great film, a psychedelic trip based on the life of Viktor Bout, Russian arms dealer.

Good acting, black humour, a good story well told.

The audience is right to give 84%.

The "Hollywood whores" would not give it an Oscar, since the topic is not PC enough (they prefer a film about a retarded idiot talking crap about a box of chocs).

Salt
Salt(2010)
½

I think Angelina Jolie is one of the hottest women on the planet and her acting can vary from very good, as in Gia, to OK. This film however somehow does not work: Too much action (yes, that's possible) bores after a while and the ending (leaving an opening for a new beginning, in the form of Salt 2) is just too over the top (EVEN for today's audiences).

In future she should pick her roles with more care.

As for director Noyce, who's father was a Australian spy fighting behind Japanese enemy lines in WW 2, he has produced finer spy-stories.

If you want to spice up your movie-life, this adds too much Salt.

The Invasion
The Invasion(2007)
½

Never liked Kidman and just find this movie as spellbinding as the average toothpaste-advert.

Out for Justice
½

Solid Seagal Action Movie. Get the popcorn and beer out, switch of your brain and switch on "Out for Justice" and just enjoy !

Freedomland
Freedomland(2006)

Give me freedom ! Freedom from Freedomland. Love SL Jackson, but this film does not work and here Moore is not more, but just too much.

The Sea Inside (Mar Adentro) (The Sea Within)

Moving, powerful, without too much pathos. Javier Bardem is one of the best actors of our time. One of the best films I have seen for some time.Looking forward to watch "Biutiful".

Carlito's Way
½

Good film, but Carlito's Way must be the most depressing gangster-movie ever. Everybody does everybody.

The Reader
The Reader(2008)
½

Good cast, especially excellent German supporting cast. Oscar for Kate ? OK, but the film fails in uncovering the enormity of her decisions. All in all a good film and nice to see a change to the usual "Holocaustploitation-films".

The Godfather, Part III

The best in the Godfather trilogy ! Sorry Marlon Brando. And f*ck the critics. Excellent character study of Don Corleone and of the nature of power and how it corrupts.

Infamous
Infamous(2006)
½

Toby Jones does well as Capote ! Good cast, good acting, a bit slow moving, but if "this grumpy" gives it more then 3 stars it must be good, and it is.

Choke
Choke(2008)

Funny, intelligent & entertaining (unlike so many other movies) !

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

So you have Woody Allen as director, Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz (plus boring Rebecca Hall) and one would expect a good movie. The film has it's moments, but overall it is like a beautiful but somewhat bland meal. Highly irritating narrative and the ending seems to be inspired by: "Hey guys we already have 90 minutes of film, now let's wrap it up".

Romeo + Juliet

Simply excellent, true to the text of Shakespeare, but in a truly modern setting. For me still one of DiCaprio's best movies, with a fantastic Claire Danes.

Half Past Dead
½

2% on Tomatoemeter - the lowest score I have seen. Deserved ? No, average Seagal, average B-movie and a bunch of German actors looking out of place. Also found it goes down better with a second beer. Prost !

Tears of the Sun
½

This film just does not work. I guess the high audience-ratings are triggered by Bruce Willis, noble Americans and action. There are many more action-movies and much better once. I also like Monica Bellucci less covered up and covered in less mud. Thank You !

Knowing
Knowing(2009)

#Knowing: OK, I like Nicolas Cage, some good special effects and the ending is better then expected (after I have seen a few reviews) but no good film without a good script (must have been abducted earlier on).

Hunger
Hunger(2009)

In German I would say "harte Kost" (hard food) meaning very heavy stuff: The film is brutal, bleak, unrelenting. One of the most depressing films I have seen in a long time. Good acting, but must-see ? No.

Bronson
Bronson(2009)

Bronson is a brutal force of nature, but does not get near "Chigurh" (Javier Bardem) in No Country for Old Men.

Cross of Iron

A masterpiece ! One of the best war-movies made. Over 30 year old, but lost nothing of its impact and beats many war-movies made in more recent years. Answers what is not worth dying for: Blood and honour for any regime.

The Name of the Rose (Der Name der Rose)

Simply a classic ! Visual feast, always enjoyable.

Brotherhood of the Wolf

Imagine...imagine a werewolf-movie without a werewolf, over long, boring. Little ray of light: Monica Bellucci in the nude.

I Know Who Killed Me
½

Now I know why Lindsay Lohan had to go to prison. "I Know Who Killed Me"? Yes, the director and the bad script, they hardly left you a leg to stand on... . Half a star for the movie and one star for Lindsay.

Apocalypse Now

One of the best movies ever made. Psychedelic trip down the river...

Beowulf
Beowulf(2007)

Animation sucks. Not even a animated naked Angelina Jolie can save this one. A great story badly told. The high scores by the top critics are beyond me. Top critics or media whores ?

Fireworks (Hana-bi)

One of the best movies I have seen and certainly Kitano's best. Immediate in its storyline, violence and symbolism (the paintings featured are from Kitano). Hana-bi is a stoic, violent Zen-road-movie. A "Fireflower" (true translation) to behold.

12 Rounds
12 Rounds(2009)

The director previously brought you "Die Hard 2" & "The Long Kiss Goodnight" and now this dead-on-arrival-road-kill. Most boring action-film I have seen. Not one redeeming feature - not one.

The Lovely Bones

Overall: "Failed". Good actors, but not only a sad story, but not well told, with a message that sucks.

I'm surprised that no one picked up that the "heavenly scenes" (or pre-heaven) seem to be a copy & paste-job from "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams.

With this crap Jackson is digging his movie-grave.

2 stars for the cast only.

Saw II
Saw II(2005)

I CAME, I SAW, I WONDERED WHY someone - many - like this kind of splatter-porn-horror. Or a sign of becoming too numb or only way to exorcise aggression and fear. Future horror-movies will have to offer even more gore to entertain their audience.

BLOODLESS compared to "Hostel" - SAW this one coming ?

2 stars since within the genre of splatter-porn-horror it ticks some boxes.

Sharks in Venice

OMG this shark-roadkill-movie has no idea where to go & why: Partly Indiana-Jones-rip-off, funny mafia-bad-guys, bad action & poor sharks asking where is PETA when you need them. If all movies would be this bad we would return to storytelling round a fire (sounds like a great idea).

GoodFellas
GoodFellas(1990)

I love gangster-movies and this is the best one ever made. Better then Godfather/s & Scarface. Based on a true story which it tells extremely well. 5 years later Scorsese produced "Casino" which feels like a remake of Goodfellas (similar story, with De Niro & Pesci) but is also a must see, which can be enjoyed time and time again Scorses is the Picasso of filmmaking !

Duplicity
Duplicity(2009)

The big rating-gap between "Top Critics" & Audience seems to be a good indication that the former only acted as media-whores flocking a big-name, big-budget movie. Thank you, but no thanks !

The Omen
The Omen(2006)
½

The story about a poor kid that does not really fit in and the grown-ups responsible for looking after him all drop dead...talking about an unhappy childhood.

Oh yes and if you have seen the 30 year old Damien there is no need to see this one.

Rosemary's Baby

No not a horror-movie, but a Zombie-movie: I turn into one while watching because of boredom. If this is horror, "Home Alone" is a over 18-thriller.

Punisher: War Zone

The title says it all: It punishes the audience. The motto of the genre seems to be: If at first you don't succeed punish & punish again (and don't forget the tomato-ketchup).

Notorious
Notorious(2009)

All the negative reviews by the "top critics" are largely BS. This is a good story well told. Not BIG but GOOD.

Savage Grace
Savage Grace(2007)

Saw the first 20 plus minutes, thereafter decided I do not want to waste my time any longer...

Scarface
Scarface(1983)
½

One of the best gangster movies, but does not reach Godfather or Goodfellas. First time I watched the movie (half a lifetime ago) I found Tony Montana too crude, but he is growing on me...

Body of Lies
Body of Lies(2008)

Solid Thriller, one of the best directors and good acting. Only 3 stars since the genre war-thriller offers more.

Hostel Part II
½

What motivated Tarantino to get involved with splatter-porn ? But if you like the kind of bath Elizabeth Bathory enjoyed or have little bits of bad guys cut off this is for you. A minute percentage more merit then Saw, but mainly recommended for people who thought it was funny to torture animals when they where kids.

Day of the Dead

Rob Zombie made some good stuff, BUT this one is Dead On Arrival. A real Zombie of a movie.

No Country for Old Men
½

Gripping, thrilling and blackly funny: that'll be the Coen's doing what they do best . Bardem as the "killerforce" is great, only weak link: The End.

Watchmen
Watchmen(2009)
½

If they had based Watchmen around Rorschach it could have been a good movie...it could.

The Happening
½

I'm scared, nothing is happening ! Good start & downhill from there. The devil in Southpark has more potential to scare.

Harvester
Harvester(2006)

Even the worst among the bad Seagal-movies are still entertaining, but this is dead long before arrival, not even the sexy, half-naked bad-girls can ensure just one star.

Sudden Death
Sudden Death(1995)

A solid JCVD popcorn movie. His best after Hard Target.

Ocean's Twelve

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING ! Switch off & read a book.

Godzilla
Godzilla(1998)

The film Godzilla watched backwards is about a huge dinosaur helping to rebuild Japan then moon walking into the sea.

The Contract
The Contract(2006)

O Shit, it is so bad, I cannot even joke about it. Good thing I was Twittering most of the time...

The Day the Earth Stood Still
½

Not only the earth stood still, but the movie too. Keanu Reeves plays so wooden, that it could convince some that no intelligent life exists anywhere else. My expectations where not too high, but jet again I was proven to be an optimist.

John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars
½

Take Kiss, LSD & the average Zombie-movie, into the mixer & out comes "Ghouls of Mars". I add one star for Natasha Henstridge, makes a star-and-a-half.

Resident Evil: Extinction

Milla Jovovich kicks Zombie-butt. Predictable but fun and Yes, She is stunning. ; )

The Limey
The Limey(1999)

Terence Stamp is great, storyline soso, constant flashbacks at least irritating. 92% on Rotten Tomatoes ? Must include a 60% "artmoviehouse-bonus".

Collateral
Collateral(2004)

Cool, compelling & with the best cinematography since Heat. Tom Cruise should "turn bad " more often. Also worked n Interview with a Vampire.

Gladiator
Gladiator(2000)

Starts as a 5, proceeds as a 4 plus, but ending is a 3 minus: Total Good 4. Great epic, great action, great visual displays, but the ending...

Queen of the Damned

"Interview with a Vampire" deserves 4 stars, this film is just vampire roadkill, inspired by MTV music-clips with a shot of gothic. One star-rating borders on overrating it.

Kill Bill: Volume 1

One of Tarantinos best movies. Cast: Perfect fit. Story: Not deep, but fast paced & grabs you. Visual feast. Only drawback: That you had to wait for Part 2 so long & P 2 no longer has the power of Part 1. The Bride Rocks !

The Color of Money

Martin Scorsese, Paul Newman & Tom Cruise: You expect 4 stars, but this gets 3 with a lot of goodwill, because Scorsese made some of the best movies of our time. Story OK, but film does not grab you and just carries on and on...

Grizzly Rage
Grizzly Rage(2007)

The best part of the film: It does end. Acting: Only mother-Grizzly comes across well, as for the humans you keep hoping for an early slaughter, it comes, but too late. A Kindergarten-show may have better special effects. Want more excitement ? Watch paint dry.

300
300(2007)

"This is Sparta" as imagined in a Videogame, but the film is a visual feast, with great action. 3 visual & popcorn-points.

The French Connection

Overrated, dated, clear indication that in 40 years the pace of films of the same genre has increased a fair amount. See once if nothing better to do & move on. To compensate my disappointment I now watch Casino.

Thirteen Ghosts (13 Ghosts)

Described as one of the most horrid horror-movies. "Nice house" though, one of the best horror sets with fantastic ghouls. Story may be thin, but feast for the eye. Since I'm strong on visual impact 3 stars.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

Watching Wall Street 2 (Money Makes Me Sleep):Nothing of the prophetic power of No 1,but greed is good & we part of the system. How original.

The Good Shepherd
½

Slow, boring just like Matt Damons acting, but OK if you play a good game of chess at the same time (luckily I did). "Good Will Snoring".

The Godfather, Part II

Love genre of gangstermovies & love Godfather, but Part 2 with its constant "flashbacks" is just too long; when it remains in the present its great, but not better then Parts 1 & 3.
