Chasseurs de Dragons (Dragon Hunters)

One of the better animated films I've seen in a while. Fun stuff!

Killer Joe
Killer Joe(2012)

Awesome movie! Twisted, brutal, disgusting and awesome.

My Left Foot
My Left Foot(1989)

Well, I think that may be the best performance that I've seen to date.

Dutch Girls
Dutch Girls(1985)

Eh, kind of stupid. Nothing really happened.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Dang, I wanted to like this, but didn't. Bored me. :-(

The Muse
The Muse(1999)

Arlington Road

The Big Lebowski

Hidden in America

The Mirror Has Two Faces

White Squall
White Squall(1996)

Jeff Bridge plays his character so tough and strong as the captain of a school sailing ship that it hits that much harder when his vulnerabilities finally show through. Great performance. I think this is the shortest that JB's hair has ever been.

Wild Bill
Wild Bill(1995)

Ya aughta know better that ta touch another man's hat.

The Vanishing

Jeff Bridges is a creepster in this one. I liked it all but the cheesy ending.

American Heart

Awesome performance by Jeff Bridges.

Tucker: The Man and His Dream

What happens when the government can't help but intervene and sides with the big dogs with the money against the underdog and tries to regulate the underdog out of business. I thought everything about this movie was top-notch. Didn't realize that it was based on a true story until the end.

The Smurfs
The Smurfs(2011)

I thought this was better than everyone is making it out to be. I went in expecting a mindless movie for kids, and that's what it was. Nevertheless, I was entertained.

A fun little caper. Runnin' from the cops, runnin' from the bad guys.

The Morning After

Good thriller. Got a little cheesy romancey at times.

8 Million Ways To Die

A bit messy, but fun stuff.

The Last Unicorn

I thought that this was going to be like My Little Ponies or something but it actually ended up being pretty good. Lots of boobs, granted they're on some crazy bird-thing and a tree. And that butterfly was stoned off his ass. An awesome 80s-rock soundrack to boot!

An entertaining action/sci-fi flick. I thought that the special effects were pretty good for the time. And the soundtrack was bumpin'. Can't believe it took me this long to see it.

The Girls in Their Summer Dresses

The first two of these shorts were pretty good, the last one...not so much.

Heaven's Gate

This movie is supposed to be one of the, if not the biggest failures in movie history and pretty much ruined Michael Cimino's career. And, yeah, it wasn't very good. I can't say it was entirely bad. There were some really fine performances and cinematography. But some of the scenes just went on and on and on. I think an hour of the movie was people dancing in circles while the camera spun around them. Some shots had so much dust blowing around I don't know how Vilmos even know what he was shooting. And then there's the rumor of animal cruelty on set and the on camera rooster fight, which is a no-no in my book.

Winter Kills
Winter Kills(1979)

This one was pretty awesome, strange and funny. Great cast! Need to watch again, there was so much going on. And there seems to be a bit of mystery behind the making of the movie. There's a featurette about it on the bonus DVD that I shall be watching soon.

King Kong
King Kong(1976)

I really liked this. The special effects were pretty good for the time. Jeff Bridge's beard was freaking awesome!

Hearts Of The West (Hollywood Cowboy)

Entertaining, but not very memorable. I had a few drinks before viewing, so that could have had something to do with that.

Stay Hungry
Stay Hungry(1976)

The best movie about bodybuilding...ever. You can't grow without the burn!

Rancho Deluxe

The best scene involving Pong I've ever seen! Oh, and there was some rustling.

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot

Jeff Bridges and Clint Eastwood team up to get some loot. Then JB dresses in drag...and looks damn good.

The Iceman Cometh

Really long. People really used to sit through 4 hour plays? And that's not counting the intermissions. Wow. Very interesting from an acting perspective. Some fine performances here.

The Last American Hero

Jeff Bridges, Gary Busey and car racing.

Bad Company
Bad Company(1972)

Jeff Bridges plays a young man trying to survive during the Civil War, by avoiding the war. Or does he?

Fat City
Fat City(1972)

A nice, old-school boxing movie.

The Dilemma
The Dilemma(2011)

Actually like this a lot more than I thought I was going to. I don't think it was supposed to be the slapsticky comedy that the trailer made it out to be. I think that's what turned people off, it was different than what they were expecting.

Main Street
Main Street(2011)

How in the world did they manage to make a film with a 2 time Oscar winning writer, an Oscar winning actress, an Oscar nominated actress, and a future Oscar winning actor so bad?

Where the Truth Lies

Sex, Drugs, and a comedy duo!

Nice to see Colin Firth do something a bit different. This has it moments, but it's no David Lynch film.

Love Actually

I'm bumping my rating up. I think I'm getting more sensitive with age.

Girl With a Pearl Earring

This bored the bejezus out of me. The cinematography and costumes were nice, though.

What a Girl Wants

Well, at least Colin Firth had some fun in this one, dancing around in his leather pants.

Hope Springs
Hope Springs(2003)

I'm surprised by the negative reviews of this. I rather enjoyed it. Nice and quirky, just how I like it.

The Importance of Being Earnest

Some good ol' fashion Oscar Wilde fun! I'm currently working a scene from this in @JMarcusCoaching 's class. Fun times!

Great performances, cinematography, and set design. A little slow. It was frightening how non judgemental the actors played these evil people.

Bridget Jones's Diary

"It's Raining Men" during the big fight scene? Really?

Relative Values

Not great, but entertaining. Colin Firth made me giggle.

Turn of the Screw

After reading some other reviews, it seems I'm not the only one who thought this didn't make much sense.

Hot Tub Time Machine

Overall funny, just felt it was a little off at times for some reason.

Blackadder Back & Forth

Never seen Blackadder, so I'll start with the very last one, because Colin Firth is in it for a minute. Was pretty funny stuff.

The Secret Laughter of Women

I guess the laughter really was a secret, and I wasn't let in on it. Did not like.

My Life So Far

A sweet, coming of age story in which young Fraser learns all about slanking.

Shakespeare in Love

I see why it tore up the Oscars in 99. Great cast... among other things.

A Thousand Acres

Not bad, a bit depressing. Colin Firth does an American accent for the first time and it was pretty darn good.

Fever Pitch
Fever Pitch(1997)

Pretty good movie about man's love of sports and woman's finally coming to terms with it.

The English Patient

I liked it better after a second viewing. Bumped it up a star.

A bit too drawn out and melodramatic for my liking.

Circle of Friends

Circle of friends? Circle of back-stabbers! A little too chick flicky for me. Colin Firth's mustache almost saves it. Maybe if it was a fu manchu.

Cousin Bobby
Cousin Bobby(1992)

I found it interesting how Cousin Bobby wanted the government to help his people yet said people stated that they wanted to do it on their own. Power to the people! Some awesome early 90s rap in this doc.

Walter Matthau as a pirate... or was he playing Saddam Hussein?

The Advocate (The Hour of the Pig)

So, in the 15th century, animals were put on trial just the same as people. Watch this movie if you don't believe me. Colin Firth's hair rocks.

Mad at the Moon

Colin Firth's delivery of his one and only line, "You need a shave?", was brilliant!

Femme Fatale
Femme Fatale(1990)

Colin Firth and Billy Zane. Oh yeah! Not as bad as they say.

Wings of Fame

Well, this one was unexpected. Had no idea what it was going to be about and was pleasantly surprised. Totally could have been directed by David Lynch. Weird, bizarre, and awesome. Can't believe it is only available on VHS in the US.

One of the best period pieces that I have seen. Colin Firth seduces everything in sight until playa gets played.

Apartment Zero

I liked this one. Colin Firth really starts to show his chops. I was watching, thinking that there was something David Lynchian about this movie, then Mr. Firth's character brings up Blue Velvet! Crazy!

A tour de force by Colin Firth in an alright movie.

A Month in the Country

Colin Firth grows a cool mustache and shows a bit more range. He plays a stutterer 23 years before Kings Speech. Foreshadowing?

Lost Empires
Lost Empires(1987)

Colin Firth broods as drama unfolds behind the scenes of a British theater troop in the early 1900s. Not too bad, a little boring at times. One of Sir Laurence Olivier's last performances.

The Damned United

Pretty good movie for a movie about soccer.

Another cup that is not of my tea.

Another Country

Colin Firth's first movie. Not really my cup of tea.

Red Dust
Red Dust(2004)

Pretty good little courtroom drama set in South Africa.

Prime Suspect 6: The Last Witness

This was pretty good. The British police actually do have guns.

Daniel Deronda

These Brits are too polite. Someone need to throw a punch every now and then..

Love in a Cold Climate

Wasn't bad, I just can't get into the British aristocracy stuff. I didn't know Mike Ditka was an actor, and he was spot on with the accent.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

Everyone was right, this wasn't too good. Still like me some Josh Brolin, though.

World Trade Center

Although it in no way took in the full scale of the events surrounding 9/11, I though it was a pretty good look at two lives affected by it.

Dan in Real Life

It had its moments, but a little too chick flicky for my liking.

Blue Velvet
Blue Velvet(1986)

Watched it again last night and it's still 5 stars. Dennis Hopper is awesome!

Paths of Glory

Old-school war film about the stupid French. I didn't know Kirk Douglas was that freaking old!

Pretty good classic epic. Some of the massive sets and battles would only be done with CGI in today's films. It was just a little long for me, maybe because I was really tired while watching.

Wild At Heart

The greatest movie in the history of movies.

Smart People
Smart People(2008)

Dennis Quaid is angry! I really liked Thomas Haden Church as the adopted brother. All in all, it was aight.

Although the movie couldn't go anywhere near some of the places that the book went, it was still able to capture the dark humor. Pretty good movie for the time. Peter Sellers was great. Amazing debut by Sue Lyons.

Dr. Strangelove Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

Funny stuff from Peter Sellers and George C. Scott.

2001: A Space Odyssey

I think this movie hypnotized me and took advantage of me. HAL is a bitch.

The Ace of Hearts

Good movie. A little over-dramatic at times, but I guess that's expected being this is a silent film and most of the actors come from the stage. This may be the oldest movie I've watched. Lon Chaney's hair is pimp.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Lots of funny stuff! Lots of penis!

Barry Lyndon
Barry Lyndon(1975)

Bill Gluckman from Malibu's Most Wanted is great in this beautiful 18th century period piece. Every single shot in this movie looks like a painting. Amazing!

Full Metal Jacket

I just watched this again as part of my Kubrick fest. Everything about this movie is amazing. I just realized that I was chatting it up on the set of Chuck with Animal Mother! Freaking sweet!

Eyes Wide Shut

Another beautiful movie from Kubrick. Too bad it was his last.

South Park: Imaginationland: The Movie

After terrorists attack our imagination, it's up you the young men from South Park to save the day. Hilarity ensues. Snarf snarf!

Air Guitar Nation

Anyone who has ever picked up an air guitar MUST see this documentary. It is a touching film that follows one man's quest for greatness.

Waiting for Guffman

A hilarious behind-the-scenes look at community theater.

Fast Company
Fast Company(1979)

Not too shabby for a 70s movie about drag racing. Along with some of the most awesomly cheesy music in cinematic history. I found myself clapping to the end credits song.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Classic fun about crazy people that drink alot.

The Brood
The Brood(1979)

A little slow at times but has the Cronenberg body disfigurement that we all love. It's interesting that Cronenberg wrote this while in a custody battle with his ex-wife. Deformed children out to kill, what else could you ask for.

The House Bunny

Nerdy bitches getting hot and bitchy. I chuckled a few times.

Listen up folks! In just 1 hour and 40 minutes, you too can learn how NOT to act! That's right! Stephen Lack puts on an amazing display of bad acting in this one. Doesn't he know that you never ask questions? If the great acting coach, Jeffrey Marcus, ever sees this performance, I fear he will hunt down Mr. Lack and pummel him.

The Dead Zone

I like me some Stephen King and I like me some Christopher Walken. In this fine film, Christopher Walken has a premonition that there will be more cowbell.

Friday the 13th

I'm a sucker for these slashers, but it seems like it's getting harder for them to come up with something original. So they take a classic and change it. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for re-makes, but Jason does not run! Still, the blood and gore was fun.

The Fly
The Fly(1986)

I really liked this movie. I wasn't sure what to expect. Cronenberg takes a very implausible subject and makes it believable. I have a new found respect for Jeff Goldblum. I would have never pictured him in a role like this, but he was great. As an actor, his performance was an interesting animal(or should I say insect) study of a fly. The Fly is awesomely disgusting, yet at the same time, unexpectedly touching. I give it 5 fly eyes up.

A pretty good adaptation of the book. There were just a few things that I realized were missing. I was really looking forward to the drug tripping scene, but it wasn't there. Oh well, it didn't really affect the story, I just thought it would have been fun. A sexy, erotic look at car crashes and the psychologically scarred people involved in them.

Lars and the Real Girl

I liked this movie. I thought Gosling's performance was great. This movie was kind of sad when you think about it. A delusional man falls in love with a blowup doll. Will the community accept him or will he be sent to the loony bin?

I think I want to give this movie a better rating, but will have to watch it again first. I was a nice looking movie and really gave you the sence of being in a crazy person's head. I think I missed some stuff. I had a few "Ah, that's what was going on" moments while watching The Making Of.

A History of Violence

I liked this movie but was left wanting a little more. Not much, just a little. A revealing of the history of violence in a man's life. It's always a plus when someones neck gets stomped on. Maybe the one thing more that I wanted was more violence on the puck jock kid. He pissed me off! If his neck would have gotten stomped, 5 stars.

My Best Friend's Girl

I'm sitting here thinking, "There's a movie I just saw and was going to reviw, but what was it?" That's never a good sign when I just saw it a few days ago. This movie kinda sucked balls. We watched for about a half hour when I asked Ashleigh, "Why aren't we laughing?" I feel like this movie couldn't decide if it wanted to be an over-the-top grossout comedy(which I like) or a romance. It just wasn't working. Just watch the trailer for the laughs.

Eastern Promises

Viggo Mortenson shows his versatility in this intense thriller from Cronenberg. I've been impressed with Viggo lately, looking forward to delving into more of his work.

Disaster Movie

I thought I was in for a suck fest at first but it actually ended up being pretty funny.

I think I need to watch this one again to like it more. It was late and my brain was too tired to decipher alot of the thick accents. But other that that, I liked it.

A Life Less Ordinary

I really really liked this one. It has the feel of David Lynch's "Wild at Heart" which is one of my favorite movies. Lots of surrealism and wacky characters. Fun stuff!

The Beach
The Beach(2000)

I liked it. But something was lacking and I'm not sure what it was. Maybe it's that I wish Ewan McGregor(who was originally slated for the lead until the studio shot that down) was the lead instead of DiCaprio. Beautifully shot.

Vacuuming Completely Nude in Paradise

This movie rocked. Combines door-to-door vacuum sales with techno music. That's pretty original. It's fitting that I'm working on Glen Gary, Glen Ross is my scene study class. Salesmen are crazy.

28 Days Later

I think I would like this more with another watching. It was late and Ashleigh was sleeping and the sound is mixed so the scarey sceens are a lot louder than the dialogue, so I found myself focusing more on adjusting the sound than on enjoying the movie. Must watch when it won't wake people up.

A fun touching movie about two young brothers' delema when they come across a large sum of money.

A horror film with the sun as the killer. I thought this movie rocked but the end got a little weird, but then made a little more sence after I thought about it.

A great message about human rights. Some great perfomances here.

Slumdog Millionaire

I didn't think I would like this one. But when Danny Boyle won the Oscar I had to delve into his career. After watching all off his movies I could get my hands on, I was actually excited to see this, and it delivered. The kids in this movie were amazing. It was alot more intense than I had expected.

Raising Arizona

Kind of in the vain of Wild at Heart which also starred Mr. Cage. That is a good thing seeing as Wild at Heart is one of my favorite movies. That said, I really enjoyed this.

Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma (Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom)

Well, this one gives Holy Mountain a run for its money as the most messed up movie I have seen. Watch out Richard, I might make you watch it. Ding!

Miller's Crossing

A great twisting turning mob story.

An Officer and a Gentleman

Richard Gere shows that I may well be playing college age parts into my thirties. I thought this was going to be a total chick flick because it was one of Ashleigh's Netflix selections. It turned out to be pretty good. Reminded me a little of Full Metal Jacket at times.

Barton Fink
Barton Fink(1991)

A playwrite from New York goes to Hollywood and descends into hell(or ascends, because the elevator did go up). I think that's what happened...maybe. Watch it yourself and let me know what you think. Very David Lynch-ish. Me like.

Fighting Mad
Fighting Mad(1976)

Pretty good early effort from Jonathan Demme. This isn't availiable on DVD or VHS (I think the DVD is coming this spring), but apparently Cinemax has a copy. Peter Fonda kicks ass and takes names later.

W. in 2012! Or Josh Brolin playing W. in 2012!
