To be fair, The Last Jedi was so profoundly bad that any sequel would be at a disadvantage unless it completely ignored the previous movie and picked up from The Force Awakens. But The Rise of Skywalker is a disjointed mess. There's no natural progression from scene to scene or action to action. The characters feel like they're saying and doing things at random. When Rey randomly kisses the violent man who terrorized her and those she cares about, it comes completely out of nowhere. It really feels like something that was put out as a joke and we'll hear that the real VIII and IX will be revealed later.
