Have a lot of mixed feelings about this one. the storyline was a bit different; there was a mystery which was fun to speculate on, and there were a couple of twists, neither which i expected. having said that though, the film is permeated with some undefinable level of creepiness that was unnerving and disturbing. I won't be watching this one again.
The best part of this film for me is that they used the psycho house for the exteriors of the obligatory creepy house, it was pretty convoluted; the big plot twist didn't make much sense; and the stated explanation on how all these events began was offensive. a couple of creepy moments, but mediocre at best.
OMG! this was HORRIBLE!! the first couple of scenes before they go on the swamp ghost tour are a bit amusing; the main character, Ben, was sympathetic as well as refreshingly intelligent and serious-minded for a horror flick, and the early cameo by horror legend Tony Todd made this look promising, but it all goes to shit FAST! I can't believe Mercedes McNabb (Harmony in Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Joshua Leonard (great in Bates Motel and the otherwise mediocre Blair Witch), Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees himself), and even Freddy Fucking Kreuger, Robert Englund appeared in this piece of garbage! no suspense, no scares-just place some people in a swamp and a deranged killer pops out of nowhere and starts slaughtering them. Even the killer's backstory was boring. you can't get more paint by the numbers and cliched. and if he is a fucking ghost, how can they hurt him?!! but I've spent enough time on this steaming pile of shite. would get HALF a star if not for the likeable characters.
Not one of my favorite King books, but this adaptation is good. Sissy Spacek is terrific in particular. our heart breaks for her; we root for her to get the acceptance she craves, and it is awful when it all goes to shit. If nothing else it shows the hell that is high school to perfection.
not bad. genuinely creepy at times. liked eric bana very much. I've never been a huge fan of demon posession films though. I wish it had been a bit more original. course it claims to be based on true events.
