I have never been very fan of the Wolverine films, I mean I liked the X-Men films and consider Days of Future Past as the best one of the franchise and one the best superheroes films ever made, but it had its spin offs, two Wolverine films, X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), it wasn't a great film, despite it deliver some chills and explains the backstory of Logan, it lacks the depth the character deserved, later we had The Wolverine (2013) it was a big improvement over Origins, but its third act was foolish and incoherent, then we had Deadpool that thanks Fox it howed that superheroes films doesn't need to be for families only, so now we have: LOGAN.
It's the year 2029, the X-Men are dead, and the mutants are almost extincted, no new mutants has appeared in years. An aged, Logan now a drunked limo driver lives on the Mexican Border with an old Prof. Charles Xavier who can no longer control his powers and has a pessimist attitude, and Caliban a mutant who can sense any mutant but can stand sunlight, Logan due to his age, his healing power has weaken and some of his wounds can't heal at all, meanwhile a group called The Reaver, who had hunted down the mutants, leaded by Donald Pierce a cyborg, are looking for a girl called Laura, whom happens to be a clone of Logan, she has the same healing powers and was given the same Adamantium Implant. LOGAN reluctantly accepts to help the girl along with Charles, so they start a journey to take Laura to a safe place, due to she being the last hope to the mutants to begin a new generation.
The film has many references to the source material respects very well the Wolverine's Mythology, and is quiet obvious director James Mangold was inspired by Western films, there was a scene where Charles and Laura were watching a Western, I loved that scene because it shows how the three characters, Logan, Charles and Laura want to change their lives but cannot denie what they truely are, but to accept themselves. Now Hugh Jackman delivered us the highest point of his carrer and the best interpretation of the Wolverine character, now we see an aged Logan who has lost everything and hasn't found the peace he is looking for nor love he wants. Hugh played this character one last time majestifully, he can transmit pain and peace on certain moments that you want ot get into the screen and tell him how much you really care for him. Charles has lost control over his powers, he suffers of a deep depression and has hallucinations, and despite he has a pessimist attitude he never gives his fate on Logan up, being him the only person who truely has loved and cared for Logan for what he is. Dafne Keen's introduction to the franchise is just more than welcome delivering an incredible and terrifying Laura or X-23, the rage she shows oh dear, THE RAGE!.
In the end I think that the film was an epic, and beautiful ending of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine joruney, treating themes like inmagration, or diversity on people being on a crisis nowadays, the film is so human by working with this themes.
LOGAN is a contemporary MASTERPIECE. One of the greatest Superheroes films ever made, being at the same level of The Dark Knight Trilogy, bloody, crude, depressing and hard to watch, that I sometimes wish it should have never been made, FANS WILL LOVE IT.
It's been 7 years since the last Robert Langdon film was released, now the Professor is back.
Prof. Robert Langdon wakes up on a hospital in Florence, Italy suffering of Amnesia, apparently he is being hunted by an evil corporation and some feds, with the help of Sienna Brooks he escapes, and discovered that he knows, the secret of an apparently virus that could destroy humanity. Now he has to find it while avoiding the people who wants to put him down.
The film now has changed the rhythm of its predecessors, it is fast paced that some viewers may get lost, now the plot is more serious, while the previous films focused on spiritual, scientific and religious themes, this one focus on ... well saving humanity. However I liked how the characters were treated on this film, they had its backstory making it more dramatic and giving them a goal or something to keep on. However on the third act the film decreases its quality giving a happy ending instead of the chaotic ending the book had. It felt forced that disappoints and agains falls on cliches.
I think the film had everything to make it better that the last two films, but that chance was lost. However as always Tom Hank's performance was cool, being this the best film he plays the Professor, cause in this ocassion you care more for him.
I liked the film, despite its disappointing ending, it may entertein you, I consider it the second best of the trilogy, it lacks the adrenaline and thrills Angels and Demons had, but the story and characters were treated better than The DaVinci Code. You should watch and judge by yourself.
I have to say that I've been a great fan of this anime since I was a little boy, and with the previous film "Battle of Gods", I was brought back to my childhood, when everything was colourful and fun, however that film, had a weak plot and some stupid reasons to be, but I enjoyed it, now we have "Resurrection F", which now has a darker tone, and the results? ... EPIC.
Some time after Goku was defeated by Bills, the remaining soldiers from the Freezer Army resurrects him, after many years of planning, now Freezer wants his revenge, but he now enters into training, cause he never needed since he was borned with all his power, Goku and Vegeta are now pupils from Wiss, Bills assistant and trainer, Freezer, arrives and after Goku's friends manage to defeat the army, a hard but epic battle between Goku and Freezer begins.
Well yes the plot is simple, but how many films have simple plots and despite of it we enjoy them? The plot and execution improved very well, is far supperior than "Battle", the animation proves how TOEI has advansed with it, it's colourful, fluid and they made a great job with the camera. The ONLY problems that I found on the movie are: SPOILERS!
- It is never explained how Goku and Vegeta reached the new transformation.
- The film is almost done for fans, so newcomers or may enjoy it and have some fun or will find it boring and confusing.
END OF SPOILERS!
Nevertheless, DRAGON BALL Z: RESURRECTION F, is worthy the ticket, and Akira Toriyama shows us he still has some stories to tell yet.
And here it is, a new film by Gonzalez Iñarritu, I had been a great fan of this filmmaker for years, and most of his films give big messages and tell interesting, powerful and human stories. Now he gives us this new film, with a rare title: "The Revenant" word which I investigated and it means the Reborn, well I found the title I little mocky for people, but first let me tell what this movie is all about.
The movie begins with a take of a cold and lonely forest somewhere in anyplace at the USA ... we never know, byt eh way get ready to watch lots and lots of these takes for the rest of the film, then we see a battle, some USA company or trappers, versus some natives, who hatwhite people cause they destroyed their home territories, many people is killed and injured during this battle, except a hunter named Hugh Glass and his son Hawk, whom he had when he fell in love with a Pawnee woman many years ago after some soldires killed the natives, while the company walk back to the camp Glass is attacked and seriously injured by a bear, he is not able to talk after this attack nor walk neither. The other guys can't carry him, a man named Fritzgerald, a young trapper named Fridger and Hawk stay on the forest in case Hugh gets better or dies, offering money to them, but Fitzgerald kills Hawk without Fridgerknowing and convinces him to leave Hugh behind and get back to the camp. Glassrecovers from his injuries and tries to survive the forest, also he seeks revenge on Fitzgerald.
Well that's a summary from this film, it has a interesting plot which is based on true events, but I have to say that this film is just a waste of time, awful and grotesque. It longs almost three hours, and most of it we only watch take sof the forest, yeah we know that it is beautiful, coldy and lonely, and that Emmanuel Lubezki, the DP, is the greatest cinematographer at the moent, but we didn't need all those takes, also it is fulled of pretentious metaphors about life, yeah, Fritzgerald killed your son a left you to die, hasn't he had enough reason to seek revenge, why did we need to watch all those allucinations from his wife. While the film keeps going it falls into the typical American heroes, by showing the Natives as unintelligent, savages and weak people, the French people as invadors, rapists and as evil people. I know that Iñarritu showed that the three groups are savages, but I repeat, it showed more how inhumans were the Pawnees and the French, yes the Pawnees had a reason, their terriotiries were smuggled from them and the leader's daughter was kidnapped, oh yes, by the way this reminds me the lots of macho scenes that the film had, there's only two women in the whole film, one dead and the other raped, I couldn't belive this I almost walked of the theatre, but I had to finished it. Di Caprio's performance was Ok but there's nothing memorable in here, you only watch him groaning and crwaling for almost three hours, I thought the movie would never end. Until we reach the end, he does not has his revenge cause some ethic and personal reason, and that God and life will take care of everything, It must be a lesson to never become a bad guy because all the bad things you do to others, those bad things will, somehow be done to you, aka KARMA. and the film uses a horrendous metaphor to explain it. The characters are underdeveloped, especially Hawk we never feel bad when he is killed, Fitzgerald does all of these because he is simply a bad guy, who wants money, and live, and because the film needed a bad guy.
I left dissapointed with this film, it lacks of human soul, it was just a excuse to put lots of gore and cinematography, it sometimes turns boring, always pretencious, nasty, and there's nothing to remember, just that it was a big waste of time, and ONE OF THE WORST FILMS I've ever watched. Save your money, and your tiem and go watch something else.
