The House Bunny

Ok, obviously this is not cinematic genius, but for what it is (a movie about a House Bunny) it's pretty charming. And Anna Faris and Emma Stone are great at what they do.

Daydream Nation

Very fun and surreal. Better than I was expecting. All the acting was great and the story had some genuinely surprising twists. A little messy, but in some ways that was part of the ride. Overall I liked it a lot.

PS. I couldn't sleep so I watched this again, and on a second viewing it seemed less messy and much more coherent. I just upped my score.

The Tree of Life

Sprawling, flawed, ambitious, occasionally portentous, and yet I cannot give this less than 100% because it's so nice to see a REAL motherfucking piece of art and not just another piece of recycled crap!

Midnight in Paris

Just plain charming and fun.

Blue Valentine

Great acting, well made, and yet a few too many pretentious touches to allow me to love it. Nonetheless, there's a lot to respect here -- an adult story about love.
