Roman Polanski's Playboy Production of Macbeth is the last great adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy.
Almost every character who we care about goes away or goes wrong far too early & Harriet herself is not always easy to like but the story ends well enough. The film will speak mostly to kids Harriet's age. They will find it entirely exciting & at some points confusing, as unchaperoned 11 year olds skip & sleuth about the big city.
I know Frank Castle's a NYC kinda guy but other than location, which I feel works, this feels like a classic Marvel Punisher tale. It's violence, sadistic, comedic & campy. The villains that come to take out Castle are unrealistic, the dialogue is cheesy & our hero sustains far too many injuries to remain breathing. But those are all the components it needs to work, seeing as it's a comic book movie.
This one is for kids. It's not good but it's not unlikable.
In no way is it a good movie. In many ways it is an entertaining movie. Anyone over the age of 11 is too old for it but I would have loved going to see this in the theater when I was 9.
