Many layers to this horror-realism flick. I think people will still be talking about this film for years to come. For example, one of the things that got me recalling this film years after seeing it is how this film touches on the possible repercussions of the growing social and economic disparity in our society right now, not just between traditionally disparate groups, but now among generations. I mean, the kids in the cult seem to be middle class for the most part.
There are terrors that lurk in the heart of everyday, mundane life. Real terrors, not contrived boogeymen made up to sell tickets, not jump scares that always fail to redeem a mindless horror flick. It is a rare gen of a movie that can somehow distill some of that true terror between the opening and closing credits. Take Shelter is just one of those rare gems.
Haters gonna hate; this is a CHILLING movie.
Well done, well acted, well directed, obviously well researched. In my view, 99% of the movies out there are a royal waste of time. But this movie.....this movie.
This is one of those movies I will watch at least once a year probably for the rest of my life.
This is a brilliant movie!!! It is very clever concept. The acting is compelling. The movie itself is visually gorgeous. When the movie ended, I could not help feeling a little resentment that they don't make more movies like this one! I am more than a little taken aback by some of the negative reviews on this site and others. Do these "critics" have cornflakes for brains? Were they staring at their navels throughout the whole movie, pining for the next rendition of Saw? This is a great movie!
