Sam's Review of Romeo + Juliet
Romeo + Juliet(1996)
Baz Luhrmann's version of William Shakespeare's classic Romeo and Juliet is a film that I would call a beautiful mess. What I mean by that is the film looks great but overall everything else just isn't that good. First off I'll talk about the few things I did enjoy, which is the cinematography and some of the performances. The cinematography just looks incredible, everything about it is just beautiful and unique. Another thing that I enjoyed was some of the performances, specifically Leonardo DiCaprio and Clair Danes who I thought were good for the role's and had decent chemistry. Other than those two things I really didn't like that much. At the start of the film I thought it would be decent but as the film went on I kept losing interest in it. I also thought the style of the film wasn't done that well, before the watching the movie I thought a more modern take on Romeo and Juliet would be cool but it just wasn't executed the right way because most of it was just over the top. Overall Romeo + Juliet just didn't do it for me, if you plan on seeing it I recommend just skipping it because it's basically a two hour music video.
