A laughably bad movie. Hearing this was John Travolta's lowest-grossing movie had me intrigued to watch it. It's about John Travolta playing a character named Moose who is a fan of an actor named Hunter Dunbar and Moose becomes obsessed with Hunter Dunbar after a bad encounter and eventually starts stalking Hunter Dunbar. There have been better movies about stalking before like The Fan with Robert De Niro and One Hour Photo with Robin Williams and those films worked much better because the characters felt like they were real people and the characters were better written as well. The Fanatic also takes material from One Hour Photo such as Moose breaking into Hunter's house and Moose using Hunter's items as well. John Travolta does sink his teeth into his character and does try his best to give a good performance but actors who have played autistic characters before like Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump and Dustin Hoffman as Rain Man did much better. John Travolta as Moose felt like Ben Stiller's character Simple Jack from Tropic Thunder. Overall The Fanatic is not a good movie but it is entertainingly bad and was better than Gotti.
When it comes to comedy sequels they are usually hit and miss. In recent years we have had some bad ones such as Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser and Dumb and Dumber To. Super Troopers 2 offers many laughs such as the troopers taking pills and them having no idea what they are for and Farva finally getting his liter of cola. This offers many of the same gags from the first movie but does take a different spin on them. Rob Lowe I was not expecting to be in this movie but you can tell he was having a lot of fun playing the mayor of Canada and worked well with Broken Lizard. If you are a fan of the first one then I also recommend this one and it was a lot of seeing these characters back for another ride and hopefully Broken Lizard makes a sequel to Beerfest next.
Not a great or even a good movie but not as bad as people put it out to be. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck lack chemistry which does not make sense because they were romantically involved outside of the film. Jennifer Lopez does actually do a decent performance and makes it somewhat entertaining and I did enjoy seeing her talk to Ben Affleck like he was dumb throughout the film and it was fun seeing her defend Justin Bartha's character. Ben Affleck's performance is quite annoying and tries too hard to look and sound tough but instead he puts a bad impression of what he thinks gangsters in films act like and he tends to overact a lot and throws the f bomb around more than Joe Pesci did in Casino. Justin Bartha did decent in his role and did try his best to act like an autistic person and he was clearly inspired by Dustin Hoffman's role from Rain Man. Throughout the film Justin Bartha wants to go to the Baywatch which makes me wonder how long ago this was written because Baywatch was off the air for 2 years when this was made. There is a few entertaining elements here such as Jennifer Lopez giving teenagers a lecture at a restaurant and Ben Affleck breaking their computer at the end of the scene or when Ben Affleck tells Justin Bartha the Baywatch is closed with a pretend phone call. I also enjoyed seeing Justin Bartha sing Baby Got Back. It is not a great comedy but it's not as painful as other comedies such as The Master of Disguise, Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, and Dumb and Dumber To. I would not put it up as one of the worst movies ever made either because there is much worse like Battlefield Earth and Son of the Mask and I definitely don't think Martin Brest should have quit directing movies after this because he just hit a speed bump and I am sure he could have bounced back after this if he wanted to.
Has a lot of talent involved and I have enjoyed Steve Zahn in other films such as Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, Saving Silverman, and National Security. Steve Zahn acts just alright in this stoner comedy and his best to deliver laughs. If you heavily enjoy stoner comedies and Happy Madison films then you would probably enjoyed this movie
If you like monkeys and baseball then you might enjoy it. Not a great family comedy or great comedy in general but Matt LeBlanc does okay at best in his performance. The plot is stupid and there are better baseball movies such as The Sandlot and Rookie of the Year but there is a few laughs here that kids might enjoy.
