When I was younger, there was a little mom & pop pizza place called Maria's. We all used to go there. This film took me back to that place and time in my life. When we are all young, lost but having fun. I'd go into Maria's to see my friends who worked there and just hang out. Northwood Pie brought back all those memories. It's a fun film but also very natural and lived in. I really liked the characters and a glimpse of a younger generation going through the same rites of passage I once did. I loved it!
A movie, a dream, a surreal dance. A really well done, beautifully shot and acted film. Strange, fun, suspenseful, poetic. It made me think a little of David Lynch. And you know if I compare something to David Lynch I must really love it! Watch this. You won't soon forget it.
I took a shot on this because of the positive reviews and because I love Aubrey Plaza. But ten minutes into the film I completely hated all the self-absorbed, angry characters. And the dialogue was so contrived! Like before the movie started, all the characters dropped acid and lost all ability to self-censor... just spoke whatever popped into their heads. I hated this film. And who sets the prices on this stuff on Amazon? Sound of Metal is free on Prime and that film was terrific from start to finish. This piece of garbage was 5.99. Going forward, I'm just going to rent anything on Amazon that costs more than $3. Otherwise, I always feel ripped off after. REFUND!!
There are so many predictable movies out there. I watch so many, I can usually see most plot twists coming a mile away. But with this film, I really had no idea how it was going to resolve. I won't spoil it here, but if you start this movie, you're probably going to get hooked and watch it all the way, wondering as I did what's going to happen. It's also a beautifully crafted film... writing, directing, acting. It had me in suspense the entire way.
