The Great Race

One of the all-time comedy masterpieces - they don't make 'em like this anymore. Jack Lemmon gives one of the great comic performances of his - or any other - career. He is hysterical in 2 major roles and with Peter Falk, as his henchman Max, make a great comic duo. The pie fight, the saloon brawl, the melting iceberg and especially the race to the finish line in Paris are classics - enhanced by one of Henry Mancini's best scores. It's a long but rewarding race and bears re-watching. "Hit the Button, Max!" (the Hannibal 8 is also one of the great movie cars!).

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein

½

A genuine classic. Every horror comedy owes a debt of gratitude to Abbott and Costello and this movie. It works because they have the original monsters and they don't play them for laughs.

Safety Last!
Safety Last! (1923)

One of the true classics of the silent [or any other] era. Would be difficult to find a more iconic film to demonstrate that you don't need dialogue to be funny or CGI to thrill an audience. My personal favorite of the all the silent comedy features, with Charlie Chaplin's "City Lights" and Buster Keaton's "The General" rounding out the Top Three. And any Laurel & Hardy short for good measure!!

Tower Heist

Not a great movie, but an entertaining time filler. Enjoyable if implausable. All the actors are good in their roles...as they have been playing variations on these characters for years.
