Mute (2017)
Surprised something so casually misogynistic and homophobic would make it to the screen in 2018. Half of it is a fun buddy comedy featuring a child rapist/sadist and a domestically violent murderer (fucking gross); the other half is a sad attempt at a gritty thriller about a missing (modern) Manic Pixie Dream Girl (fucking boring). Of course the one-dimensional sex object/narrative device, I mean woman, ends up dead. Because some jealous ex slaughtered her. I guess that's still interesting to the boys who watch this garbage. Rolling Stone is out here saying the comedy duo saved the film, and I have to tell you we're in some dire straits if we can say these monsters as "saving" anything. This kind of film should be left in another era - too focused on the humor of killing women, on raping them, not enough focus on character development or decent dialog. Giving it 1.5 star's for Skarsgard's performance and the overall aesthetic, which were both decent.

No Men Beyond This Point (2015)
Great movie! I thought it was odd that women would create a world of sexual abstinence instead of pairing up to form a bomb lesbian utopia, and the laughs were a little thin if only because misogynistic attitudes were portrayed a little too accurately. Besides the heteronormative trajectory of the narrative, it was a good look at why gender equality and an end to sexism are so vital to our success as a species. Really enjoyed it
