Stephanie's Review of Underworld: Awakening
I was so psyched to hear they were finally making a sequel after a few years of silence, especially since Selene wasn't in the last movie (what the heck was up with that?). It didn't disappoint, because Selene is more awesome than ever.
I think after Evolution and Rise of the Lycans, they really needed to focus LESS on story, because they were punching huge holes in their continuity and trying to make all the background information too complicated. Awakening was way more easily digested, with a simple plot, some kick-ass action, and a surprise or two along the way.
And let's face it, this franchise came before Twilight showed up on the scene and ruined vampires and werewolves for the masses. Underworld: Awakening is taking back its spotlight and showing vamps for what they really should be: gritty, violent killers, not sparkly, self-loathing control freaks who have a thing for teenagers without personalities.
Long live Underworld!
