Get Out
Get Out(2017)

Wow! I/we didn't see that coming!! There were a few things that would have made this film much better than it was, and it was good. Even though society really doesn't care about this, there was far too much foul language and vulgar conversation in this film. It was completely unnecessary and things would have been fine without them. The meat of the plot went a bit over the top and could have been dialed down to a more realistic deviance. Also the skin color dynamic turned some people off just a bit, my wife being one of them. It may have had satirical undertones but the film would have been fine without this interjection. Overall a different take on horror that had me dreaming about it that night and a bit nervous before I woke up.

Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation

No sex and only one four-letter word during the entire film. Impressive. Hopefully the trend continues and improves.

Another movie starring the almighty white man who has no morals, is only concerned with himself, is a thief, liar, fornicator, murderer, etc. but in the end gets the girl, makes tons of money and lives happily ever-after, with zero consequences.
As Pete Travers said in his infinite wisdom....."brilliant".

Black or White

Still not getting the whole "black" thing...........for people who's skin is brown/tan/white.
Get some new material, some regular material. Sick of "Selma" and other stupid themes like this.

3:10 to Yuma
3:10 to Yuma(2007)

I'd never heard of this film but saw in at the library and liked the cast so we grabbed it. Great movie! I was pleasantly surprised. Bale and Crowe delivered some of their best performances IMO.

Alex Cross
Alex Cross(2012)

A surprisingly good film. Action packed, but a bit confusing at the end concerning the plot.

One of the more notably futile attempts for some perverted man to express his fantasy of a stick figured female WASP with big, (er', full) lips and blonde hair to be a super human teenaged lesbian. Really, really, really unrealistic and dumb.

At times, I forgot I was watching a movie. the acting was just that good. The story line however, was a bit hokey. The portrayal of regular folks, who would be considered by many to be trashy ('ghetto' had they been brown). was very well done.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

I laughed really hard at some parts in this film, but in the end it was just too vulgar and we had to turn it off about 30 minutes in. I got the satire but just chose not to handle the rest.

Stupid plot, gross, made my wife cry.

Django Unchained

Very entertaining. Jaime Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson were incredible.
Even though we got many laughs out of it. The field n....... / house n........ /general slave mentality perpetuates itself through generations of Americans.

Straw Dogs
Straw Dogs(2011)

A seemingly happily young married woman gets angry with her husband because he suggests that she wear a bra instead of parading around a bunch of disrespectful horny construction workers in a silky tight shirt, jiggling everywhere. To display her anger at him, she proceeds to open her bedroom window and disrobe in front of them all. Need I say more?

Premium Rush
Premium Rush(2012)

Different and very entertaining. Dania Ramirez.......Whoa!
Wait a minute. Looking at the top six cast members here, I'm trying to figure out what characters Lauren Ashley Carter and Sean Kennedy played. How are they in the top six and not Wole Parks and Aasif Mandvi??

It was good, but I don't get all the acclaim. It was a good movie, nothing more. Also, enough with the Middle East themed films already. How many more times can one warm over old soup?

We never saw that coming! Wow!! Great movie.

Taken 2
Taken 2(2012)

Not nearly as good as the first one, but not as bad as the 'experts' on here made it sound.

Men in Black II

If they would have just shown Rosario Dawson for the entire length of the movie, I would've given it 5-stars............oh my.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Pretty dumb.......81% of audiences liked it? That's either very pathetic or an audience rife with 6th graders.

John Carter
John Carter(2012)

The Great White Hope!!

The Watch
The Watch(2012)

Vulgar, stupid, not funny. I'm inches away from completely logging off anything else with Jonah Hill in it. He's a great talent going to waste on filth. These movies are verbal porn, and this one combined that with an idiotic plot. Not to worry however, Hollywood did manage to normalize homosexuality and make it's trademark moral message about being overly controlling and treating everyone with respect.

A senseless waste of money. The best part of the film was the close-up on the lead character's lips. I don't know if she shoots the juice in them or not, but another skinny light pole with 'plump' lips was the highlight of the movie.

Fast Five
Fast Five(2011)

Entertaining to begin with, then dumb.

Seven Pounds
Seven Pounds(2008)

Excellent. Will Smith was incredible and Rosario Dawson........yeeee-ooowwww!! This was a chick flick of sorts but we had no idea what to expect. it unfolded very slowly but kept us interested. Great movie. Will Smith is well underrated as an actor.

A sad hot mess. Bardem is a good actor, but the movie made no sense at all.

The Last House on the Left

Really surprising. It was good. I can't believe all the negative reviews here. The crazy things is, these 'professional reviewers' gave excellent marks to Superbad, which was one of the filthiest movies I've ever seen short of a porno. Yet talk about morality and such when it comes to this film. These reviewers are either from Bizarro World, or just plain weird.

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

Tommy Lee Jones is really good. I didn't understand a lot of the plot but it was very well acted. There is a scene that puzzled me however. When Barry Pepper watched January Jones walking into the mall, what was he looking at? She's flat as a board. The camera shot her backside as she strutted as if there was something there. It was nothing more than a skirt blowing in the wind.

New York
New York(2009)

A powerful message that was almost lost in the writer's attempt to frame the innocent nature of the main characters. The film went overly cheese ball in it's portrayal of the three friends as happy-go-lucky college students; thereby taking much too long in getting to the point.

Too bad it got such high ratings. I'd have really liked to have seen it but it was too vile. My wife and I made it through about 25 minutes and were done. I guess conversation like that may be common in the current generation. However, even though we've all had sexual feelings (it's natural) and puppy love experiences, I couldn't stand the language, depictions, images etc. spoken of by the two main characters as if someone were discussing the pairing of peanut butter with jelly. To read the comments by the reviewers here praising the film and compartmentalizing it helps me to further understand the moral decline of the U.S.A.

The Hunter
The Hunter(2012)

I don't know. Weird, tree hugger odd. The connection with the family was touching. Odd film where nature becomes the casualty of man's wickedness.

The movie and the guy were weird. However, after I discovered this was a true story I wondered why someone would make a comedy out of a cold-blooded murder. I can't recall the last time someone came to the big city and did interviews, studied character traits and made a comedic motion picture about someone shooting someone else in the back and stuffing their body in a freezer for almost a year. Then continuing on with life as if nothing ever happened. A heartless cold-blooded killer, glorified, studied to be understood and made into a sympathetic character. That's nice.

The Hunger Games

What was the point? A sick plot which documented the the twisted nature of humanity. The fact that someone's mind could think of such a thing is deplorable. The fact that things of this nature have happened in reality is worse. The film had it's moments concerning acting, but I guess this film was targeted at today's youth and those who view life as a battle. With the video games people play today, the general disregard for human life and general disrespect for your fellow man; I can see how 85% of viewers like this movie. Better you than me right?

Excellent. Reminded me of Traffic. Don Cheadle and Michael Pena were superb.

Inglourious Basterds

This movie showed the growth of Tarantino since Pulp Fiction. I remember the 'dead n_ _ _ _ _ in my lawn' scene from Pulp Fiction. When I was in college they ran the movie in our on campus theater and the whites erupted into laughter when that statement was made. Then when they did the cutaway and he began to explain what would happen if his wife came home and there was a dead n_ _ _ _ in his lawn, and his wife was could here a pin drop in the place, all of a sudden it wasn't funny anymore. It was classic!!
Basterds seems to show the refined honing of Tarantino's closeted bigotry. He portrays Nazi's as sharp, meticulous, cultured, trusting, soulless and ruthless. Covertly he glorifies the worst of humanity. Though I could care less that Tarantino is a closet racist, Brad Pitt made this movie great. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance and he is fast becoming one of my favorite actors.

The Stepfather

Spooky and good but got typical and horror film stupid near the end.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead

Philip Seymour Hoffman is fast becoming one of my favorite actors. My wife doesn't like him, but it's because he fits into his typecast of a jerk so perfectly.

The Savages
The Savages(2007)

Real. Having lived through it I could totally appreciate it. You have to keep your wits about you and find the humor where you can.

Despicable Me

Loved it! Great movie! Not what we expected!!

The Sitter
The Sitter(2011)

Only in the movies would a smokin' hot girl be in love with a fat, rude, lazy, good-for-nothing, sometimes funny white boy and constantly service him below the belt; while a skanky, ugly, white crack addict rejects that same guy even though he constantly eats her out. This movie was beyond stupid but I must admit it had me laughing a few times.

End of Watch
End of Watch(2012)

Please be advised that this film falls into the 'Blair Witch Project' category. Namely it takes the effect of being shot as a personal video and is therefore very shaky. About 1/3 into the film my stomach started to feel queasy and that took away some of the enjoyment. The film takes a very long time, almost it's entire length, to come down to any sort of plot. Before then it just seems like an extended documentary into the lives of two police officers on duty. I must admit I was disappointed in general, but the film was very well acted. My wife and I went to the 7 p.m. show on a Friday night and the theater was empty. Lastly, the sophomoric nature of this film's writers came into play by man's inexplicable fascination with two women being together. There were lesbian cops and lesbian gangsters, none of which added to the story line or were necessary to augment the movie's destination.

The Book of Eli

Better than expected and we had no idea what to expect. Definitely unique in content with a superb acting job by Mr. Washington, as usual.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Really silly and hard to understand initially. Unbelievable fight scenes, a la Steven Seagal. But fun! I'd be mad if I had paid $$ to see this in the theater.

Elite Squad: The Enemy Within

I had to remind myself that the drug dealers in the prison riot were actors. This movie was incredible. It was more like a documentary. It seems as though foreign filmmakers have leapfrogged the Americans in taking the craft seriously. After watching the foul mouthed illogical attempt at comedy called 21 Jump Street, this was a welcomed reprieve, subtitles and all.

21 Jump Street

Waaaaay too much foul language. When I was in H.S. it was nothing like this. The film had some humor but the language was ridiculously over the top and took away a lot of the enjoyment for me. I don't understand the high ratings. Pornographic references were thrown around like beach balls at a pool party and no one seemed to care. Wow, I feel dirty after watching it.

Super 8
Super 8(2011)

JJ Abrams is the master of making 'nothing' scary. I mean, he creates these fleeting images of 'nobody knows what it is' then uses shock techniques to keep you dialed in. In the end, nothing is there but you think there was......but you're not This movie was very stupid but fun.

The Grey
The Grey(2012)

Aside from Liam Neeson's performance, this was one of the most depressing films I've seen.

Perfect flick for Marky Mark. Thrilling and entertaining. We were surprised by how good it was. Also, it was a different type of plot. Check it out.

The Da Vinci Code

A waste of time. A complete waste of time. A complete utter waste of time. A stupid complete utter waste of time. Somebody doesn't like Catholics or Jesus or Christianity or do they? Or don't they ? Or.......just plain dumb. But the arrogance of it all is that the film speaks with such authority concerning matters of Jesus, etc. as if they've 'figured the whole thing out'. How dumb.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

He may not be able to make it with the ladies, but ol' Tom sho' can make an entertaining movie. No sex, not a lot of foul language; good job.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

Not nearly as good as the first one but much better than the second one. I really appreciated that there were no disgusting lesbian sex scenes in this volume. The story got a bit jumbled up but there was enough action to keep things interesting. This trilogy was by no means classic but I can understand why Godfather's creator said there should have only been one.

The Negotiator

Some parts were unrealistic but it kept me on the edge of my seat. Too much foul language.

Inside Man
Inside Man(2006)

Boo, I think the movie outsmarted itself in some sort of covert anti-Nazi rant. it didn't make any sense.

Toy Story 3
Toy Story 3(2010)

After watching District 9, this was a breath of fresh air.

District 9
District 9(2009)

You have GOT to me kidding me. Please don't be fooled by the rave reviews. Maybe they watched it listening to Bob Marley and passing a fat one.

Too sad, I can't get beyond the opening.

Ocean's Twelve

Entertaining, but not nearly as good as the first one. Also, it didn't make much sense; i'd watch the first one over again, not this one.

The Pursuit of Happyness

Excellent film. What an amazing story of the road traveled by this successful businessman. Will Smith deserved and Oscar and Jaden Smith was adorable. Beautiful.

Ocean's Eleven

If a movie is going to be over the top and unrealistic it should at least be kool and entertaining. I really liked this. 'they should call it white jack' -Bernie Mac

I Am Legend
I Am Legend(2007)

Not bad. Will Smith is pretty good.

This actors in the film gave it major potential. Unfortunately this film was produced by those who get ENTIRELY too deep into film production. This is a very frustrating watch as there is no plot and it meanders around to an ending that makes entirely no sense at all. I could get off into a bunch of metaphorical blather about how this scene matched another and how things were interconnected and how the screen shots, use of color, foreshadowing your time and rent something else.

p.s. I can't remember when I heard the F word used so frequently, an old Richard Pryor stand up routine, or a nasty porno movie (I haven't watched any of that filth in over a decade). They used this word almost as frequently as 'and'; this too made this movie un-enjoyable to me.

Oh boy! That's some 15lb. woman! She single handedly beat up the CIA, Secret Service, NYPD and KGB; with legs and arms slightly larger than her lips. 62%? The Rotten Tomato critics have officially become jokes.

The Girl Who Played with Fire (Flickan som lekte med elden)

The first one was much better (Dragon Tattoo), they probably should have stopped there. On top of the plot being contrived, there was a completely unnecessary lesbian sex scene of two disgusting women eating each other out. I don't understand the point, unless this was meant to be soft porn.

I'm still trying to figure out how Ashley Judd found her way onto the cover of the DVD. Her part was like 90 seconds. Harold Perrineau was a main character and Forest Whitaker was much more visible than she.
The movie seemed interesting at the outset then got lost in its own attempt to tell a mindless tale about life I guess.
I'm guessing the reason so many people liked it was because of the acting. Whitaker, Perrineau and Keitel were good.

Hopefully one day, in the very near future, American filmmakers will focus on making good movies, not commentaries. This film made no sense, at all.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

My first thought was....'oh no, subtitles and foreigners, not good'. Boy was I wrong! Great movie with great acting. I'm beginning to like the foreign movies more than ours. It seems as though they put thought into them. They're less arrogant.

The Birdcage
The Birdcage(1996)

I knew this guy was too good to be acting.

The Wrestler
The Wrestler(2008)

Mickey Rourke deserved an Oscar for this performance, he was incredible. It was like he wasn't even acting but a camera was just following him secretly in real life. The film was realistic all the way through with no Camelot ending. Wow, great film!

Good movie, good plot and realistic to the extent of how it reinforces the old adage that you can't trust a crook. I also like how they toned down the Seagal effect.
By Seagal effect I'm referring to the white male's affinity with being a super tough, quiet, nice guy who beats the crap out of any and everybody who gets in his way. It's very phony and child-like in theory and they cast Goslin in this mold, but they did TRY to tone it down a bit.
Excellent acting, rife with all the technical jargon the film buffs on here rave about.

Citizen Kane
Citizen Kane(1941)

Uh-oh. I did some research to find out why this movie was so highly acclaimed. I discovered that it had to do with the cinematography and other technical aspects of the industry that were ground-breaking in nature at the time. I'm glad, because beside that, this movie wasn't that good.

Fight Club
Fight Club(1999)

An utterly ridiculous film that must have been inspiration for Vanilla Sky. This movie offers a peek inside the minds of the over-privileged and undisciplined. A realization of this fact allowed me to understand why so many people liked it.

The Proposition

Not bad. Decent acting though the plot took a while to become understandable. Boy, this movie made me feel sorry for the aborigines. It must really stink when the law treats you like animal filth legally. I can't imagine what the general population thinks of those poor people. Its sad but I'm pretty sure they're still dealing with that crap today.

The best thing about this movie was listening to Michael Caine talk like the Geico gecko.

In Bruges
In Bruges(2008)

I guess I'll have to go back and watch this some more. I made it through about 35 minutes before preparing to play frisbee with the disc.
Two complete idiots with severely foul mouths talking about nothing and acting ridiculous. The movie needs subtitles as these dudes seem to be speaking a foreign language.
Over 80% of people liked this garbage? Somebody get me a camera.

Something is wrong in Whoville when this movie gets a 69% on the Tomatomomater but True Grit gets over 90%.
This was a very long but very good movie, superbly acted. I think its a odd that the middle-eastern actors/actress didn't make it on the Babel homepage on RT.
This movie really showed how everybody in the world is virtually the same. Various races and nationalities tend to believe themselves as superior, more cultured or civil but we are all the same. Every family and individual goes through the same stuff. Some of us live in mountains, some in projects, some in expensive condos, some in 6 bedroom homes but in the end, every person has to deal with life, no matter what language you speak. Kids are kids, women are women, men are men, etc.
Very, very well acted very good movie!!

The Tourist
The Tourist(2010)

I believe this movie was produced because Hollywood knows that Angelina Jolie sells. She has to be the only reason this movie was even produced. I have nothing against the woman and think she's a decent actress. However, there are many men out there who believe she is the hottest thing next to the sun and I just don't get it. Ms. Jolie is a walking skeleton with big lips. I don't know if they're real or not but this movie sought to please her fan club by featuring her grinning and smirking half the time while showing close-ups of her in different costumes that I guess were supposed to highlight her backside. The only problem is....she doesn't have a backside. There's nothing there! Her legs go straight up into her back. In all fairness there may be a semblance of a microscopic bump back there but the rest is all exaggerated by her clothes and her sauntering.
That's what this movie was about. Ms. Jolie sauntering, smirking, teasing and wearing clothes that make her admirers drool. The plot was stupid and Johnny Depp was weird.
A complete waste of time.

Bread and Roses

Now I know I'm different. After recently watching True Grit, Source Code and Vanilla Sky (three movies that seemed to be a complete waste of time and money) it was refreshing to see something worthwhile.
Though predictable, the plot was substantial and the acting superb. The only downside to me was the amount of foul language. Hopefully someday we'll be able to make a point without vulgarity.
I have my opinions about immigration, etc. but this was a flat out good movie, my opinions aside.

True Grit
True Grit(2010)

Something must be wrong with me. My jaw dropped when I saw all the excellent reviews of this movie. I definitely do not consider myself a cynic but this movie was bad. I think the thing that turned me off the most was the fact that EVERYONE sounded like they were reading from a script. Nobody was just talking: 'Look-Billy-there-is-a-man-standing-over-there'.
The way Bridges took to the young girl was nice, but wow, what a stinker. Maybe the cast or the Coen Bros is why so many people rated this movie well, but again, I just don't get it.

Source Code
Source Code(2011)

Completely idiotic in plot though the acting was good. We seem to have a serious problem with being able to accept reality. Hollywood has been on this alternate reality campaign for quite some time now. This film's story line is dumb but I guess the cast and nice love story inter-mingled therein saved it in some way. I'm surprised so many people thought it was fresh.

Vanilla Sky
Vanilla Sky(2001)

Oooooooo - kaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy........

Casino Royale

This is a Steven Seagal-esque film starring some 'beautiful people'. 007 is routinely surrounded by 50 guys with high powered machine guns but manages to kill everyone every time. He gets kidnapped.....gets set free......blah-blah-blah. Another time waster. Of course I understand that's what most of us are doing when watching these films.

The Crying Game

This film reinforced my belief that many people value the quirkiness of a film over its content. This film was nothing special. However, it opened with an odd scene between an interracial couple of a semi-sexual nature; then moved on to a black dude (a soldier) being kidnapped by some white dudes (in the IRA). It then proceeded to center itself on an uneasy love story between a good hearted terrorist and a bi-racial transvestite.
I was very disappointed after watching this film. The plot was nothing to write home to mom about and the acting was decent.
I recently clicked on the trailer link to a new film coming out but the reason I clicked on it was because there were two women cuddling in the bathtub. I won't watch that movie (as I don't get off on that sort of thing) but it will automatically garner attention because of its lesbian theme. Again, the quirkiness of these movies seems to excite people but I for one thought The Crying Game was a waste of time.
