Ever forget how prolific The Beatles were/are? Patel is great as a like able lead, Lily James is wonderful as Ellie the unrequited love of his life, and the music is (understandably) awesome. Suffers a bit from a little cheese to tie things together, i still found myself really into this story. Would be great as an ongoing series where we could dive into the characters a bit deeper, but definitely worth your viewing dollar.
Start with the fact that this wasn't exactly promoted as a musical, then temper your expectations. Completely over-rated, a nice movie about a prodigal kid who did the stereotypical rock-n-roll tragic lifestyle while battling demons.
As a Bundy-obsessed researcher, I was actually impressed with Efron's Performance. Unfortunately, it's like watching ï¿ 1/2 1/4 of a movie, there's just not enough of the actual mayhem this man enacted throughout his unbelievable spree of crime. Deserves a 12-part series, not a 2-hour thumbnail sketch.
We have a duty, as teens of the 80's, to give this movie its rightful due. Still holds up today with high-school angst, cliques, challenges, problems, and glory - automatics stop down if I see this movie playing on one of the many movie channels. Under-appreciated and not acknowledged for the incubator it was for talent (Cage, Edwards, Penn, Whitaker, Reinhold, Leigh, Cates) and culture of a glorious time & age.
