Andres' Review of Marvel's The Avengers
Marvel's The Avengers(2012)
For the past five years, we have been eagerly anticipating this film. Ever since the infamous post-credits scene after the first Iron Man (2008), our imaginations were filled with childhood-like wishes of just what this "Avengers Initiative" was. We all knew it was coming, and we wanted to watch this film, badly. Although, questions and doubts did arise, could a film with over 8 main characters work? Well, I can only say one thing: YES.
Taking place after Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Thor; The Avengers is surly the ultimate super hero movie. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) has finally found the perfect moment to bring the heroes he's been collecting together, to fight an evil like no other. Along with the lovely, and beautiful Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, and the new character Hawk Eye, played by Jerry Renner. Although problems and issues arise, the heroes must learn to work as a team in order to stop an oncoming invasion manned by Thor's evil brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston).
Now, Joss Wheden had a lot at stake. Not only did he have to make a movie where every single character got equal amounts of screen time and proper justice, but he had to appeal to the hype and raging fan base this movie had. It was certainly not an easy task, but I am pleased to say, Joss Wheden nailed it. He crammed so many characters and gave them all what they deserved. His directing was amazing, and his vision is what made this film great. I am eagerly awaiting Wheden's next Marvel film, if he decides to of course.
The action scenes were simply breath taking and so suspenseful. Everything from Iron Man's epic flight scenes, to Black Widow taking down three men in a chair while still looking as sexy as ever, are all fantastic. The camera angles were also good, I was literally on the edge of my seat, and so was everyone else. Although, what really made this film was undoubtedly the Hulk's massive rampaging return. All the destruction he caused was such a nostalgic and crowd pleasing thing! He even had the funniest scenes in the movie too.
What can I say about the actors? Each and every one of them put their all into this film. Mark Ruffalo was a great choice for the new Bruce Banner/Hulk and Jerry Renner performed his debut perfectly. What I'd like to point out however, was the astonishing interactions between these characters. Seeing the ole' Cap arguing with Iron Man was just so entertaining, as was Thor's petty comments regarding the rest of the heroes. I'd say some of the films best moments were simply from watching these characters talk and have conversations with each other.
There are simply no words to describe how much I enjoyed this movie. We have all been waiting five years for this and we were not at all disappointed. I saw this movie with a smile on my face.
My only complaint, though, was that it seemed to slow down just a bit in the middle. Just a tiny bit though.
Overall, The Avengers is the comic book movie we have all waited for, and it may just be the best one ever. The kids will no doubt enjoy it and the adults as well. With a grand combination of action, drama, and a bit of humor, The Avengers soars into new territory for the comic book genre of movies. I recommend staying until after the credits as well, as Marvel has left what might possibly be the funniest scene I've watched in years. I can't find anything wrong with this movie, so, without further delay, I urge you to go out and watch this film. Hell, I can't even think of a good pun to end this review with, so I'll leave it at this: Go watch this brilliant movie, you will not regret it. 9.5/10
