Why does everyone want to take this movie so seriously? The show is campy and a horror soap opera and the movie is an updated, longer, PG-13 version of the same story. It's simply not possible, no matter how brilliant the director, to make this feel like the next episode in the series as if no time has passed. There will always be a time barrier and there will always be fans of the original show that expect the time barrier to be made nonexistant by means of hope and unreachable expectations. I went into the theater thinking this was going to be a predictable, high drama, self-important remake with organ music and actors pausing for effect after lines, but this movie was surprisingly, consistently goofy and making fun of itself. Stunningly beautiful, but goofy. Just to prove how serious they take their movie, they have Alice Cooper make a guest appearance and their main character believes he's an unattractive woman. It's hard to criticize a comedy for not having enough merit or richness, although critics are trying. Just enjoy it for what it is and not what you want it to be.
