Finally, a well-written movie about the internet that actually made sense! Everything works perfectly and the characters are not like a complete idiot. It's such a relief to see a movie about the internet that the character actually knows how to use the internet like a civilized person. And also you can tell from the get-go that everyone that involved in this movie really cares and know their stuff.
With that being said, the acting alone also really good to carry this movie, considering 90% of the movie is a tech-based gimmick. A strong premise with a strong execution. An absolute fine journey from start to finish especially if you are one of those so-called 'internet aficionados' and really pay attention to the detail, you are in for a treat. Definitely one of the best this year.
Oh boy where do i begin?
Sony, desperately join the superheroes movies bandwagon with Venom. A standalone character film, which supposedly tied with Spider-man, but in this movie, because of legal issues mumbo-jumbo, he isn't.
Welp, let's give it benefit of the doubt right? But hey, Sony, when will you ever learn man. Venom, like the others that come and gone, it is just a manufactured corporate product that was made in a rush and a halfass result.
The plot is bland, the cinematography are boring and underwhelming to say the least. Most of the characters have no personallity and no character development that will make you invested whatsoever.
Also, i think they're gonna make it into R-rated or Deadpool-esque but i think they're changing their mind? so it look so halfassed.
Some of the humor feels kinda forced and not works, But some of the serious scene are so bad but it turn out to be funny, at least for me.
However, Tom Hardy performance sometimes is quite over the top and unintentionally hillarous.
And with a cast like Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, and (surprise) Woody Harrelson, you think at least the acting was good. But they do not even trying in this movie. Except Tom Hardy, which i think he's having fun and that is good for him.
The visual are the worst and considering it was made with 100 million USD budget you expect to see better visual effect. But hey at least we see a lot fun Venom fluid animatic movement.
Also the final battle, God.. that awful PS2-esque cutscene.
But despite all of this, Venom is still enjoyable to some extent.
PS: if you want to watch better Venom movie, Watch Upgrade(2018) instead
A well made and decent film that excels on many levels. Future cult classic and a must watch modern sci-fi.
A quite refreshing takes on modern horror films. The acting and characters are absolute remarkable. As i quote from Adam YMS, "a good character study film."
However i did not really like the cult storyline, since half of the movie was spent on the mother and son dynamic, we don't really get the payoff that we wanted. Because once the mother was possessed, the stakes are gone. Also The cult, and the demon wasn't really explored so the impact of the conclusion did not really works for me.
And I honestly quiet disappointed they didn't used the mother's art as a plot device more since we've been introduced that from the very get go.
Overall, i quiet enjoy it and would love to see more movies like this.
PS: as a javanese, the name: Paimon the demon is silly and not terrifying at all. Since Paimon sounds similar to common Javanese name. etc: Paijo
a rather enjoyable Sam Raimi-esque slasher to watch with group of friends. Nothing less nothing more.
