Prometheus (2012)

As long as you don't expect it to be as good as Alien or Aliens you'll enjoy it as long as you actually like the Alien series. If so, you can't fail to be a little gripped to see where it might have all started. The action is tense and the effects very good but the characters aren't as strong as they could have been and as such don't bring out the same audience compassion for them.

After (2012)

I loved the cinematography of the film, particularly the contrasting grey of the (apparent) present to the colourful sentimental scenes. It's a film that you think you know where it's going but are kind of scratching you head at the end, wondering if it all actually makes sense or not and whether what the director has tried to do actually works. It's worth seeing and nice to see a slightly different spin on the apocalypse genre.

Hellraiser (1987)

I cannot believe there are people who don't appreciate this film. It is disturbing and creepy and the gory parts are totally relevant to the film rather than the film resting alone on its shock value. Pinhead is one of the greatest monsters created in horror movie history and everyone should watch this film.

A Night Of Nightmares

Unusually this film takes a bit of a daring twist half way through and the director deliberately left a bit to the audience's interpretation rather than spelling everything out for them. It's brave to go with only 2 real characters but the natural dialogue between them pays off and it works as a low budget intriguing horror.

The Possession

Of all the "child get possessed" films since The Exorcist, this is the best I've seen. The ever reliable Sam Raimi has really come up trumps with this one that breaks no new ground but does just successfully what has been tried dozens of times. There are genuine scares and the atmospheric finale is very good. Just don't go to see it thinking you'll see something new and original.
