A magical and whimsical experience, but not in a sweet, childlike way. This film is dark, mixing nightmarish fantasy with a reality that is just as frightening. There are a few utterly perfect intances where the villain gets his comeuppance that literally make you want to cheer. They are so flawlessly punctuated and acted.
You have to put yourself in the "artsy movie" mindset to watch this film, but it's well worth it. It's a magical, mysterious little journey, centered around an earthquake of a performance from its 5-year-old star.
One of the most beautifully atmospheric films I've seen. It has a certain "feeling" or ambience that's hard to describe in words. It tells a sweet story in a magical, whimsical way.
Quirky, off-beat and very amusing. It manages to tell a story of an awkward love-triangle, without making it uncomfortable. Jason Schwartzman is fantastic as an odd, self-assured teen.
I would imagine that it's pretty difficult to make sex so unsexy. To make it shameful and sad. This film is an experience. Fassbender is excellent.
