Bruno 's Review of Dredd
Dredd 3D is a stylish, action packed and really fun flick. I have to say that at first, I was expecting it to be pretty mediocre with some bad acting, judging by the trailer released. However, I was severely wrong and the movie surprised me by its self-awareness, solid performances (especially Karl Urban as Dredd) and a great dose of graphic violence. The 3D was mostly just okay, but there is a scene towards the end that was beautifully shot with a nice use of this technology. Also, the film succeeds in balancing the action with humor, making it tremendously fun to watch.
The movie reminds me in several ways Paul Verhoeven's Robocop due to the graphic violence and the main character's motivations, which are based in applying the law at all times, being the judge, juror and executioner. There are quite a few scenes in which everything is in slow motion, but there's a significant reason for that and they end up serving its purpose very well, unlike Resident Evil 5 where these types of sequences were just randomly and excessively thrown at us. Finally, Dredd 3D is a good old-fashioned action film, which doesn't take itself too seriously and succeeds in being utterly entertaining.
