Harvey Mushman's Movie Ratings - Rotten Tomatoes

Movie Ratings and Reviews

The Expendables 3

It's not the sameness that bland-ifies Expendables 3. Rather, it's the wandering plot that hardly excels in an area before venturing off to another.

It's extremely enjoyable in a friends-come-up-and-watch-it-and-laugh-and-say-woah-that-was-a-freaking-sweet-kick kind of way

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

I found myself waiting for a complex plot tool or twist. Still though, I've came to realize that Road Warrior's accurately executed simplicity and confidence is what shines through it all.

High Noon
High Noon(1952)

Masterfully pieced together, occasionally tense, and far beyond its time.

Day for Night

It's a movie that shouldn't keep my attention but manages entirely.

The Raid: Redemption

Perhaps "Redemption" refers to the extremely impressive action scenes that overcompensate for the amount (or lack of) dialogue. Truthfully, I really do appreciate this formula every now and then.

Blade Runner (The Final Cut)

It leaves a taste in your mouth... At first, the taste is mostly unwelcome. For me, it took me not minutes, but several thoughtful hours to essentially acknowledge and therefore recognize Blade Runner as an especially desirable taste that's as unique as the film itself.
Please, don't simply take time to watch this film, take time to digest it.

Back to the Future

Back to the Future Part II

okay... kinda sad to watch... but okay... i guess...

Back to the Future Part III

Way better than 2. makes you miss the greatness of the original. Worth watching still.

Casino Royale

Finally, a Bond film with BRILLIANT script writing and genuinely emotional performances...

SPOILER ALERT!?!?!? - For some odd reason, many think Vesper was bad. WRONG! Here's what happened...

While Bond is being tortured, Vesper is being held in a room near by. She's heard screamg. She does so when the guy who eventually bursts in and shoots Cheify gets to her first.

let that sink in clearly

That guy is probably about to kill Vesper but she's like, "oh please no! I'll give you Bond's money (Poker winnings)later if you let us live." He's probably like,"aight babe." Bond and Vesper live as a result

Vesper saves Bond
She kills herself at the end because she was in deep water (haha) and guilty, as if to redeem her sin somewhat.

If she would've lived, Bond and Vesper would've been tracked by the organization for the rest of their days.

Now we've a hardened Bond

Bitter Sweet.

The Last Stand

Most of the action was cool. The car scenes were dull (in comparison to truly beautiful ones - like Bullitt - not going to criticize that though because VERY few movies now days consist of great chases) Anyway, the FBI scenes made me want TO KILL MYSELF. OH MY GOSH. At any rate though, watching Arnold was quite often fun as ever.
most action - good
all FBI scenes - LAME
some story parts - good but not consistent

Act of Valor
Act of Valor(2012)

The action is nearly top notch. The plot is good. It's presentation quality isn't consistent at all. Consider this a gritty documentary rather than a story driven film and you've got something uniquely good.

Fight Club
Fight Club(1999)

A great movie that sometimes loses it's entertainment value at various points. Also, it seems to never evoke much emotion (other than humor - would've been better if it had ended like the book - still good though, worth seeing)

The Getaway
The Getaway(1972)

- Initially, little occurs that is facinating. From the middle to end though, the movie evolves into a masterpiece that I believe is often overlooked. Not only does the story's presentation improve, it's action scenes also take a shocking turn for the incredible! (even to today's standards) ...
- In comparison to Bullitt, the script isn't as great but the pace is far speedier
- Worth watching, and worth forgiving -

The Magnificent Seven

Very entertaining when the focus is on the seven (not the slightly annoying village people) I'm a huge fan of McQueen and this is my favorite Western.

Taxi Driver
Taxi Driver(1976)

Entertaing from start to finish in an unorthodox fashion.

The Godfather, Part II

At times, De Niro's slightly superior story seems to overshadow Al Pacino's.

The Godfather

When the focus is on Michael's gradual transformation, entertainment is rarely any more more appealing. At times though, the plot seems to lose it's sheen.

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

A proper end to the series. I only wish there were fewer weird parts and that Luke's personal story was focused on more throughout the series. (As opposed to the aliens, droids, etc.)

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

This time, it seems there is more focus on Luke, thus it benifits greatly

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

An intro to the series that especially shines when the focus is on luke

It's a Wonderful Life

tragic, comedic, and most importantly, real

Dust to Glory

Great. Perhaps though a modern ON ANY SUNDAY film would've been even greater. (considering that Bruce Brown's son made it)

The Expendables 2

Stupid Fun. It is what it is... but in the greatest of ways. Only things I wish for the next one is LESS bad guy background operation details (unless its really good) and MORE expendables
Ones I wish for:
Daniel Craig
Steven Seagul
Harrison Ford
Clint Eastwood
The Rock
Jack Swagger LOL

Marvel's The Avengers

slow beginning to middle (in the eyes of one who isn't passionate about superhero movies), but VERY entertaining afterwords

This movie was constructed for Steve McQueen. The pacing IS often too slow though. For a McQueen nerd like me though...This is undeniable beauty. Oh, and its not just about the car chase by the way (though it does in fact remain awesome. This is especially true towards the end of the chase)

Smokey and the Bandit Part 3

Jerry Reed is the ONLY good thing about this nonsense.

Smokey and the Bandit II

The stupid elephant (both symbolically and completely) overshadows the very limited amount of entertaining scenes.

Quantum of Solace

(Okay film in general) MOSTLY heartless though for a Daniel Craig Bond film (Just see Casino Royale and Skyfall, Quantum doesn't count)

The Incredibles

It is incredible... ha... shoot me

It falls slightly short of The Incredibles but Megamind is worth seeing

From Russia With Love

Daniel Craig's favorite bond movie

Very entertaining, clever, and relatively fast paced. Greatest old-school Bond film

It's not emotional in the same manner as Casino Royale but it compensates.

Cowboys & Aliens

Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford work great together but there's not enough fun involved

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

Surprisingly entertaining and clever. The greatest chemistry possible exists between Stewart and Wayne.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

Greatest M:I thus far. Fast paced and very exciting

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Its very likable, but the alien concept only worked up to a certain point for some reason.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Some parts are stupid. Some parts are surprisingly beautiful.

12 Rounds
12 Rounds(2009)

JOHN CENA (THE BEST WRESTLER EVER) (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH EARLY 2000 CENA) DELIVERS IN THIS MASTERPIECE GROUND BREAKING FILM OF THE CENTURY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Real Review- It's better than expected but quite often laughable.

Mission: Impossible

worth watching if you've seen the later entries

Smokey and the Bandit

Even Alfred Hitchcock liked this movie. (no joke)

Tron Legacy
Tron Legacy(2010)

For one who has never scene the original, I enjoyed this. A captivating plot and jerk face villains power this film.

An exciting Bond film with a few slow and pointless scenes

On Any Sunday

Insanely entertaining with often humorous narration (a must see for motocross lovers like me)

Mission: Impossible III

Often emotional performances but the film is sometimes slow and dull
