X-Men: Days of Future Past

Never underestimate the power of a re-watch. The Marvel structure of corporate movie-making is still in place here, but perhaps on a return visit, where this "X-Men" film broke from the structure affected me much more deeply the second time around. The performances really are top-notch, and maybe it was my uncomfortable position watching this the first time in the front-seat-section at a 3D screening, but the action is really killer. All the big superhero stuff is just as controlled and well-executed as the humanity, too. I guess I'm a HELL YEAH DAYS OF FUTURE PAST guy now, so that's something.

Original thoughts (feel the pain): lot of It might just be the definitive death of the superhero film, and the world's too numb to notice, suckered by a corporately-run blockbuster movie culture that values escalation and shiny computer effects over real emotion and filmic grandeur within the lens. Perhaps "Days of Future Past" isn't SO terrible all on its own. I mean, it's definitely something of a disaster in terms of pace and focus, but the real, piercing failure lingers more in an extended string of predictably executed studio decisions -- er... I mean... scenes -- that do nothing to innovate or impress in a now incredibly tired subgenre.

½

Food, culture, love, and laughs. "Chef" is a stunningly realized vision, a sun-baked treat that's absolutely delicious from start to finish.

A Million Ways to Die in the West

It's a Seth MacFarlane movie -- sometimes incredibly witty, other times cringe-inducing and shitty (literally). But hey, when it works...

One of the worst movies ever made. I know that's sort of the recurring statement that can be applied to Adam Sandler's modern filmography, but this just might be his worst yet. Fuck everything. If you like "Blended", this is an instance where your opinion is flat out wrong and stupid. #Blended
