Room (2015)

Deeply moving without false sentiment -- I sobbed uncontrollably several times. The connection between Ma and Jake is, of course, deep, and it comes off as totally believable. The second half of the film explores the complex emotions which come from the resolution of such an ordeal. It isn't all ice cream and rainbows.

Larson and Tremblay are remarkable. It's a good thing the producers found Tremblay, because this movie would've fallen flat without a believable child in a difficult-to-portray role. And Larson was just masterful.

The overwhelming majority of us will never endure what Room's protagonists endured, but I think Room helps us ponder what it means to be human in the face of such depravity and isolation.
