The non-linear story-telling served absolutely no purpose other than to make the film seem "deeper" than it actually is. It's technically well-made, but there are no actual characters in this entire thing. You never get emotionally attached to anyone. I know the tense soundtrack throughout is supposed to bring a sense of urgency to what's happening, but that can't work if I simply don't care enough about any of the characters.
It's one action and glitter packed piece of fun. Margot Robbie was born to play Harley Quinn and the fun she had playing the part is noticeable throughout the film.
The breakout star here is Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Huntress, a socially awkward badass who I'd certainly like to see more of. While the middle part may sag a little, the beginning and the ending more than make up for it.
4,5 out of 5 Puddins.
In case you're looking for a truly great time at the movies, this is it!
Murder most foul, a delightful group of suspects and enough twists and turns to satisfy Sherlock, Poirot and Ms Marple at the same time. Also, it's funnier than it has any right to be.
JJ Abrams has delivered an overplotted, uninspired mess, that not only badly retcons all the most important bits of 'The Last Jedi', but also tears huge holes in all 8 previous films and makes the events of 'Return of the Jedi' as well as Anakins entire role practically obsolete. What's worse: 'Rise of Skywalker' has nothing of importance to add to the Saga. We just see set piece upon set piece, most of them 'bigger & badder' versions of superior scenes that have come before.
In addition to that it's pretty clear the film panders to exactly those 'fans' that spent months spreading the vilest hate online and attacking cast and crew of 'The Last Jedi'. Sidelining Rose Tico for a new character is just a case in point.
Cheap wow effects and nostalgia do not a great movie make.
To me this is by far the worst Star Wars film of the lot, by a very wide margin.
