In the kaiju-department, this movie delivers, and it delivers HARD. Epic battles of gargantuan scale between the different kaiju/titans/monsters. The CGI is phenomenal; you'll be enveloped into the movie's story, on the edge of your seat as if your own life is truly at stake. This is kaiju well-done by America, and the fan-service to hardcore fans of Godzilla is amazing, with great little nods spanning back to the king of monsters' original 1954 Japanese debut. However, the focus on battles suffocates the newly introduced characters from truly developing. Hopefully, future installments will see a balance of the development of these characters, as well as grand titan battles. Long live the king!
A tad hard to follow if you're not a Marvel fan who at least keeps up with all of the movies. This movie has some awesome and tear-jerking moments. Keeps you in suspense and unpredictability for a lot of it. However, if you haven't seen the other movies leading up to this, take the time to do so before sitting down for this. It is well worth it.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi takes its viewers on a glorious space adventure. This film in particular is extremely story and Star Wars lore heavy, so unless you've seen the previous films (at least 4-7), and/or are a Star Wars fan that follows the lore, this one may be a bit hard for you to follow. This movie is very different from its predecessors, while still borrowing elements from prior films. This films unexpected twists and turns will keep the viewer on the edge of their seat.
This is what I texted my girlfriend an hour after we left the movie theater after seeing it together:
Idk... I like the DC characters (Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Superman, etc.) better than the Marvel characters (Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk), but this felt like it was missing something... idk what it was, I can't tell. It just felt all too predictable and kinda baby-ish honestly. All the characters kept saying weird one-liners that just sounded lame, but I still laughed because I love bad jokes. All the super hero movies I've seen (Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2, Wonder Woman, The Avengers), they all made me excited. I got attached to the characters, whenever something cool happened I would just nerd-out, and at the end I just get so happy for the characters for accomplishing their goals. ITS LIKE THEIR GOALS WERE MY GOALS. But this movie was just like "meh" the whole time. The only cool thing that happened was when Wonder Woman showed up and started kicking everyone's butts ?? maybe that's just because I like strong female characters, but like that made me excited. Other than that, nothing in the movie was COOL. The villain was just the typical "I wanna conquer the world" or whatever type, his whole goal was to "collect three items that when put together have some sort of immense power". I can't even remember the villian's name-I cant even remember half the movie and I literally just saw it like an hour ago ?? It was all just bland, predictable, and MEH. That's the best way I can describe it: meh. The ending, I was just like "yay, they did it, whatever". And the story was just bland, it felt like an Avengers rip-off. And I feel like if they made another Justice League movie, it would be better. This was like just the beginning-the boring stuff: making friends, recruiting people, bringing Superman back from the dead so he can just do all the work-but now that they're all together, the next movie can be ENTIRELY them kicking butt, not just some boring story.
All-in-all, a phenomenal movie. All choices made are amazingly fitting-from the cast, spooky aura, cinematography, and more. The only downside was that (personally) it was not as scary as some made it out to be... although my friends thought otherwise...
