JJ adds in a little something for everyone. Trekkies get to keep a running tally of backward-facing nods: Klingons, Bat'leth, Tribbles, Daystrom, etc. Newbies to ST get all the eye candy with fast paced action. The villain/anti-hero/hero is amazing. I was cheering for him and asked myself why at the same time! The only down side was the glaring of lights, but the story is intense with some age old Star Trek questions: is Star Fleet a military outfit? What kinda of society does the crew live in? How did their society get to this point and what would they do with people who are different from themselves?
