Absolutely terrible. At best a character study of a man with no personality. It's so slow that three wholly irrelevant and absurd action sequences are force fit into the paper-thin plot. But worst of all, for supposedly serious science fiction, all the science is completely wrong or obviously stupid. I could fill a page listing every erroneous bit of science or idiotic endeavor but I don't want to leave spoilers for those that still must see this stinker.
I had no idea what I was getting into. This is an excellent film about a truly remarkable woman. It is beautifully shot and the acting is first rate. I want to see more of Yulia Peresild. She is outstanding.
Gosling can barely sing and the dancing might be OK for non-dancers on a variety show so why didn't they go with people who are really good? Also the plot is predictable and the dialogue cliche. It's not really terrible but it's not really good either.
I don't understand the positive reviews for this mindless rehash. I guess people just like familiarity and don't mind watching the same scenes over and over.
Good actors and stylish visuals but essentially a lot of people throwing stuff at each other. Basically pretty dumb despite the philosophical pretense. A disappointment.
