Okuribito is a delicately tactile movie whose sentimentality is outshone by genuine life-affirming wholesomeness.
Duel is a simple idea stretched to its limit where a young Spielberg makes use of every trick and penny available to him at the time.
Sexuality is such a fundamental part of human nature that it is pretty sad that a movie like Shortbus is considered daring at all. Unfortunately, my appreciation for how the movie frames it is undermined by an ending which honestly left me confused and wondering what any of it ultimately amounted to.
The fact that the story is clumsily told does not take away from the movie's ambitious aspirations or my appetite for more movies like this.
