Although I feel too many shortcuts are taken with the writing of the show, the cinematography is just so damn beautiful I can't take my eyes off the screen. Fantastic audio and soundtrack as well. The Knick does an amazing job of what any quality period piece should do, and that is to transport the viewer into the world of the past.
Absolutely beautiful. Amazing acting and solid writing. Wonderful use of subtlety and empty space. A perfect example of a show that allows for a complexity of human emotion, and doesn't spoonfeed us a point of view. Admittedly, I'm a very critical tv watcher, and there's not a whole lot of tv out there that I enjoy these days. For this series, I am truly grateful.
Unfortunately, I found the narration so awful that I couldn't continue with the show. I don't need every thought and feeling spoonfed to me by using a narrative voice. It's a lazy writing tactic that I found to be unbearable, especially considering that the lead actor here is perfectly capable of conveying the complexities needed without it. I tried to look past it, but in the end it's really just a poorly written show.
