this film is over rated. there is a big flaw, no one noticed it? if it was the son who tortured the mother, how come the son didn't recognize her at the swimming pool? that simply doesn't make sense.
I totally enjoyed this film. I can't believe that it was only short in 14 days? it has the feel of a big budget film. i like where it happened, as if i can smell the fresh air. i wonder what it will feel like when it rains in that small town. this film reminded me of the novel "a separate peace". pure love, pure youth, it feels like a piece of me has forever lived with those people in that small town.
wrong accent! tHIS is supposed to be a film about mainland chinese immigrants, but they hired people from taiwan province. so they all spoke with a taiwanese accent. it is like a british guy speaking with a british accent in an US-BASED FILM. I THINK THAT THEY REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO HIRE ANY MAINLAND CHINESE, THAT IS WHY THERE WAS NONE. IT IS LIKE HIRING A WHITE GUY FOR A BLACK GUY'S ROLE.
OTHER THAN THAT, THIS FILM SEEMS TO BE REFLECTING THE REAL LIFE OF SOME CHINESE IMMIGRANTS.
this film is over-rated. it is a janitor's life, how interesting can it be, it is actually really slow. however, it is not so boring that i had to stop.
the storyline is not interesting. and one big problem that i see with many hollywood films is that they don't hire asian actors whether it is about current or future time. this film happened in los angeles, but throughout this film, i didn't see any asian faces! this is just plain and simple wrong. i don't even see asian people in the background. when foreign people watch it, they probably think that los angeles is a big city with lots of white people, that is simply not the case. no wonder asians hardly ever won any oscar awards, because they are never hired!
simon rex acted as a foreign italian guy, but in reality, there are far more foreign-born asian guys in los angeles. this film would feel more authentic if it had inter-racial dating. there are just too many white people films, so this one just doesn't stand out.
hollywood will never hire any asian actors if people are not even aware of this serious problem.
