A easier watch than “Uncut Gems”. However not by much. The Safdie bros aren’t gonna be for everyone. But if you give it a chance I don’t think this film will let you down. Pattinson is every bit as good as Sandler in this film.
I didn’t much care for it . But after having some time to think about it . I’m still sure how I feel about it . It feels like your being told a story by Someone with ADHD . The movie is exhausting and at times almost unwatchable. Yet oddly enough ( to the filmmakers credit) you still find the need to stick in to see what happens to all the degenerate characters . Sandler was good in his role I will admit . But I think he’s been mailing it in for so long that we forget he’s a very capable actor. Some of the praise is a bit much . I don’t think it’s Oscar worthy. Certainly the finest he’s been in recent memory. KG is decent enough. However he is only playing hisself. Most of the movie he’s just a complaining customer. Not exactly a meaty role. I will give credit where it’s due . He does have a natural presence in front of the camera that’s undeniable .
Just a slightly more than mediocre movie when it comes to the Eastwood library. He’s made better no doubt . However I would argue that it has a lotta heart . Primary because of its lead . Who should be recognized at least . He’s certainly a actor I’ll be on the look out for. Rockwell is money as always . That guy is a brilliant actor but showed restraint in his role. He was not the hero lawyer “Lincoln lawyer” type . He was a friend who knew he could help. Jewel was the hero of the movie. It’s worth checking out .
I wanted to like the movie more than I did , but I will admit I was let down . After “The Witch” ( a movie which I loved) I was hoping for another smart , clever, some what simple ( meaning less is more) type film. Instead we got style over substance. Sorta went the Art house route on this one . I’m all for art house movies more so than most . But even I had a hard time trying to make any Kinda heads or tails of it. And maybe that was point to be confused as much as the characters . The setting is great, the actors are fantastic and the cinematography is brilliant. However there’s only a loosely working narrative that you can try and patch work together . in the end it however it seems it wasted time and more so its talent tremendously . I maybe in the minority on this one and that’s okay. This one just wasn’t for me. I’ll still eagerly await this filmmakers next film .
I like a slow burn as much as the next movie buff . But unfortunately there just isn’t much payoff or really story to tell . Pitt is talented enough to keep you engaged along with the beauty off the outer limits . The story however is extremely lacking and at times disjointed or just plain silly in premise . There’s a good movie there somewhere, We didn’t get it though.
