I watched this one as a 10 y/o kid and was astonished. Watching now, after 14 years, it still strikes me how well it stood the time! I'm not sure whether it's Hans Zimmer's amazing soundtracks, stunning visuals, incredibly intuitive animation or just beautifully conveyed concepts of freedom, love, care, and responsibility. Perhaps everything altogether. Story and pacing are poor but manages to serve the purpose very well. The narration at times feels unnecessary, especially from Matt Damon's mouth, but is justified for the young audience 16 years ago. In all honesty, this was a fresh breeze back when every animal just spoke. Deserves 4/5 stars but here 0.5 more for bravery and pure warmest nostalgia. Dreamworks, the remake is expected!
Unfortunately, some parts of the main stories were rushed to fit the movie medium. Feels like a full-fledged book would have been Fantastic. Nevertheless, quite freely I can say this is the largest and most elaborate expansion of Wizarding World since HP1. Any Harry Potter fan will enjoy it at its fullest. 4.5 / 5
