Halloween (1978)

Another brilliant film from the man who brought us The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Much like his previous films, "I'm Thinking of Ending Things" plays with the viewers perception while tackling themes such as identity crisis, love, life and death. This film will captivate you from the first 10 minutes, just from the dialogue alone. Great performances from Jesse Plemons, Jessie Buckley, David Thewlis, and (especially) Toni Collette!

Mank (2020)
The 11th film from David Fincher was well worth the wait. Any fan of film, and more importantly, filmmaking will enjoy this one. Gary Oldman, starring as Herman Mankiewicz, delivers a top notch performance and is by far the most captivating character throughout. Amanda Seyfield isn't too far behind either, and steals a scene or two. The attention to detail is what has always made me a big Fincher fan, and the way he captures the 1930s is perfect. The look, the sounds, and the studio politics we see is what makes this film interesting. I also want to shout out Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for putting together the perfect score for this type of film. By the end, I would say that aside from the great performances from the cast, that was the most memorable piece for me.

Promising Young Woman (2020)
So witty, so fun, so brave: I could go on complimenting the story for PYW. It is one of, if NOT, the BEST film of the year! As serious and dark the film is at moments, it is matched with it's fair share of laugh out loud moments. This is a dark-comedy that will live on for years. Fantastic performances from both, Carey Mulligan and Alison Brie - Mulligan deserves the Oscar nom! The film was shot just as well as it was written. With direction from Fennel and Kracun as the cinematographer, the result is some superb shots and use of color palettes, making PYW a visually striking experience you will want to see.

One Night in Miami (2020)
Very strong script and direction here. A film about four historical icons gathering after Ali's title fight. Arguably one of the top three written films of the year, and the cast does not disappoint, as each member delivers each line with conviction. Let's hope for more directorial efforts from King in 2020!
